With all the conjecture lately about them ending development it nice to see an update that they are still working on it. I'm not too surprised this update is taking longer, we knew that the >2TB fix would take a new kernel and that the audio bug required a new development kit from Intel. I expect both of those take more effort that a bug scrub. If they are not fixed it's going to be disappointing. It would be nice to get an official word on the next patch, even it doesn't include a date.

your guessing those fixes are in the works. Im assuming its intergration with cloudee so they can start making revenue off of that venture as fast as possible. I think we are going to be a little disappointed when the new firmware releases and confused about time it took where effort was an should have been like always. Im starting to look for better options. I just got an apple tv and used airplay and air video to send server content to my tv. slick very slick and because I have a mac air mirroring is nice also.....

How much would they even charge for Cloudee? With Amazon I can get 50GB of online storage for only $20 a year. And I can upload to it at least at 70Mb/s. Which is my max upload speed. And content in the MP3 format does not count toward the storage limit. I realize Cloudee is supposed to be a little different, But I can't see charging much for Cloudee.

I currently have a bunch of music, pictures, and home videos stored on my Amazon Cloud drive. So now I only access my music from my cloud drive on my phone. And I have quick access to the home videos and pictures with a 4G or WiFi connection.

I'm pretty sure they'll come up with 2-3 subscription models depending on how much online storage you need...

yeah, I just bought an AppleTV 2nd Gen for my parents and I jailbroke it and put XBMC on it. Have to say, it was pretty slick and, most importantly, I noticed that the audio codec handling was better. I'm still gimped when it comes to AAC encoded 5.1 on my 5.1 stereo system. XMBC + AppleTV did a better job on that...

I haven't really followed cloudee very much at all since it has very little appeal to me. Cloud storage is and has already been with us for a while and is pretty easy to setup for general use. It's fine for docs, pics and music but not really ideal for video IMHO. I see several obstacles to cloud use of video. First most people don't have the bandwidth to stream good DVD or BR quality films and they need to be compressed a lot like the films on Hulu, Netflix, etc. To me these aren't good enough. We're getting there and it's good enough for many people but not for me personally.

The second issue is a matter of bandwidth. Most ISPs have a limit you can use per month. For example Comcast allows you to use 50GB per month. That's fine for pics and music but can get used up quickly for movie theater quality video. If you access these though your cell phone you might have 2-5GB or so per month.

I personally store my TV shows and movies locally and don't rely on online streaming. What I really want is the best local streaming device possible. That's what I purchased the BB for. I don't care about social networking on my TV set nor do I care much about the other online streaming on the box (although I know a lot of others like it).

I'm simple. I just want a box that's outstanding with local content and doesn't need to be bounced a couple of times a day cause it slows down. I want a box that has good adult filtering and can keep my kids out of stuff they shouldn't have access to. I want a box that gets better with each release and not fix one thing but break two or three other things.

    Call me simple,

I agree with much of what you are saying. My interest in the Boxee Box also centers around local playback. In that vein I would like to see issues affecting this addressed. I do use some of the online services like Netflix and Revision 3 and I like having them available but I have other devices that can provide these as well. Boxee is obviously trying to focus on online content delivery and whatever areas will improve their revenue stream. Due to life choices I only have the time to watch a couple of movies a week and generally skip online content if favor of a movie queue that is growing faster than my time to whittle it down. I hope the the next firmware release, and I think one is coming someday, will fix what local playback issues they can like buffering, long waits for menu access after quitting a movie, etc. I know the focus will favor online development, I just hope they don't ignore bugs in the box's basic functionality. A two-year old device should be more mature than this one.

Comcast allows for 250 gigs per month not 50
