That's why i prefer my WD Tv live.
Its not perfect buy any stretch but its does what it promises without any real issues and i don't have all this random crashing, slowdowns slow scanning and so that plagues the boxee.

The HD audio is highly unlikely to be fixed and the flash updated but that aside boxee box failings all reside in the firmware.
Something which boxee could have addressed a long time ago but didn't in favor of projects that make money or make them look better to investors.

Somehow they forgot the most important investor is the buyer, word of mouth has sunk many a company.
Word of mouth for boxee these days is stay away its firmware is still too beta and not up to a finished products standard.

Such a same really even with those two unfix-able issues the box would rock if the firmware was up to spec.

People don't buy a car only to find out its got engine, break and electrical issues..they expect it to work or be fixed by the maker.
People expect their media box to run ..not reboot, slow down, scan poorly and so on..they expect it to work or be fixed like any other product.

Excuses by some about how it behaves are just that.. a product is suppose to perform as promised out of the box or be fixed to do so.
Not take hours to do something when it should be taking minutes or freeze if left too long.
It should require convoluted tweaking just to get it to perform decently.

The real question is who fault is it?
I think its got less to do with the programers and more to do with the guy at the top.
Avner dodges questions better then the flash dodges bullets and seems incapable of giving a honest answer to the owners.
Not a man who inspires a lot of faith in people about his product.

I've got no problems at all with mine. It works brilliantly and I use it pretty much daily. I preordered it on Amazon the minute I knew they were taking preorders btw, so I've had it about a year point five.

I wouldnt say mine has worked flawlessly. There are more hiccups then I would want for a $200 device. In the beginning I recommended this to a ton of people, now I cant recommend it to anyone. There are just issues the average consumer would get flustrated with or confused about. There isnt a clear line over internet content or local. That in itself is flustrating. The netflix app needs work on boxee. Not sure if that is boxes internet connection or the app itself. The reason I say that is weird behavior when wired, There are comments all over the place about speed and this that and the other about the connection.

What I hope to see is some polish on the boxee. 2 things I see coming (very soon) that could kill this brand dead in the water are:

1)apple tv supporting apps. This would make me jump ship in itself. Id just use air video to watch my local content and with all the major channels and Tv.com having apps Id be right where I am with the boxee but with a better easier UI and more more stable.

    2) XBMC I havent really gotten into this but Im seeing alot of rumbling coming from this product. its only a matter of time before someone makes hardware like boxee for this interface.

The future holds exciting things hopefully the boxee will be there to enjoy it

First, that article is a year old and not everything in it may apply.

Second, that article is about BOOKMARKS in the Boxee Browser and has nothing to do with what Boxee shows on its online libraries/screens.

I get that too when I enter that URL in the Boxee Browser. What do you get when you enter that URL?

Same deal as above. He's using URLs in the Boxee Browser to bring up those websites.

You'll see them if you use the Browser and enter those URLs (or follow his actual instructions and basically get a whole slew of URLs bookmarked and ready to go).

I understand that I can go there by URL. But I thought the boxee was an online aggregator. I mean they have a channels option for online content. If they are pulling content an a network resource like this isn't included but we have a minimal amount of shows from same network??? Doesn't that mean something is missed or not working correctly?

I got those links from here: http://deviceguru.com/boxee-box-tips-and-tricks/

I was responding to exactly to what you posted, which was a web page about how to get more than 12 bookmarks to use with the Boxee Browser.

No, Boxee is not scraping all sites that you can access via the browser, probably due to either contractual issues and/or technical issues (Flash, lack of scraping code, etc).

FWIW, I pre-ordered the BB when it was first available on Amazon. I was one of the ones who received it a day early, prior to the public firmware being released. I've been a long fan of BB. However, I've recently built a gaming PC into my entertainment center (http://imgur.com/gsBuv) and I'm adding a tuner card to enable live TV as well as PVR capabilities. To that end, I started using XBMC 11 (Eden) with the Aeon skin and it is leaps and bounds, galaxies even, better than BB as it is now. It's fast, responsive, supports additional sub-title sources, and did I mention, FAST!

Most importantly, it is actively developed.

I've been a patient and long loyal customer of Boxee, but they stood still too long, and since it is based on XBMC anyway, my media was all recognized by XBMC Eden, and the transition has been easy.

Sorry Boxee. I wish you well, but now you're just a media streamer I used to know. I didn't have to cut you off, but I did. And moved you to the bedroom.

Well it is going on 3 months now since last firmware release and not a peep about a beta version on the horizon anyone know if one is coming down the road to fix some of the issues like smb, subtitle searches, or the audio problems?
