HD audio drop-outs are a known issue, and have been for quite some time. The new problem is the slow-downs and freeze-ups a small number of users are experiencing. Overall, this 1.5 firmware is considerably more stable than most of its predecessors. Since the 1.5 release, this forum has quieted down substantially, i.e. not as many people are having problems.
I would suggest it is because these problems have been occurring for the last 12 months (audio) and people are sick and tired of the crappy response from box dev's so they don't bother. Mine crashes all the time and I even get audio drop outs when watching Netflix!!!

I suggest it is a hardware problem that they cant fix and don't want to admit it as it would mean refunds for all!

The box is so 'fiddly' unless you're a tech head, the things is pretty much useless!

I have a question: Is it somehow possible to scrape movies and TV-shows with the german descriptions?

My boxee box only loads the english movie descriptions. I don't know how to re-configure this.

    Thanks,

    Chris

The only way you can do it is by using nfo files for each media. I've asked Marcel for European scrapers, but he said it's not in their interest/priority.
They really do care about us in Europe. A lot.

Default Boxee Box won't boot after 1.5

    Hi all.

After the 1.5 update, my boxee box worked fine, then after a shutdown, it would get stuck at the "loading" screen.

I would go into the restore mode and reset it, which used to work, now it doesn't affect it.

The thing is I can Factory restore it back to the 0.9 release it came on, and also from a USB to the 1.2 public release.

Only issue is, I can't seem to get around it trying to update to 1.5

I've tried with no WLAN or Ethernet connected. I've also put the two update domains in a filer on my router to stop it from updating, but the error message is "Internet connection found, can't reach update server" but it still won't let me move past the update point.

So is there a way to get around this screen and use the public 1.2 update?

To me these issues don't convince me that it's a hardware issue.

    Thanks

    Ben

The easiest way to get around the forced update is to turn off the screen saver and always power off via the button on the box. The update will download but you will never be forced to install it using these two steps.

Any thoughts as to why netflix crashes on launch and why the shutdown button doesn't do anything but freeze the screen? I didn't really intend to update. These issues were probably there in the last version. I restored after netflix stopped working and got the new version buy default I think. The problem is that netflix still doesn't work.

Sorry, I just realized I've posted this in other topics also which I should not be doing. Hopefully someone will have a suggestion or two...

Heya, posting across multiple threads for the same issue makes it harder for folks to track what's been suggested and what else you might do... Much better to just post once and wait for suggestions.

Without a doubt. As I said, I should not be doing that. Sometimes frustration just gets the best of me

Ah, I don't think I have explained myself properly.

I'm at the point where I have flashed to the public 1.2 firmware from a USB key, and now that it's booted up, it goes online and then tries to download the latest firmware.

I want to know if and how I can skip the download the latest firmware step and load into boxee normally.

If I block the update websites it just stays in a loop of being unable to download and starting the download process again.

The 1.04 release managed to get around it but that's because, I *think*, I left it for a few days and it skipped it.

Is there a timeout on waiting for an update?

    Cheers

I think what you need to do is let the upgrade happen, don't do any set up (e.g. add sources), turn off the screensaver and then re-flash to the v1.2 firmware from the usb key.

Once that's done, you shouldn't get stuck at an update prompt (if it comes up, there should be a "later" option) and then, you must use the power button on the box to turn off.

Or am I still missing something?

I'm not aware of any timeout which is why I suggest the update/ screensaver off / downgrade approach...
