    Hi Mart,

Last Sunday night I also noticed strange things with the clock time on the Boxee. (although nothing to do with the latest beta FW as I am on the official FW). In my case (last Sunday evening) the time zone etc was correct, but it was stating that the time was approx 1.5-2 hours earlier than it was. My internet connection was okay, the NTP server used by all my other computers attached to the network was providing correct times. But yet the Boxee was odd.

There is a Jira ticket about strange clock times created (I have added my own experience to that one) perhaps you should add yours?

    http://jira.boxee.tv/browse/BOXEE-12678

The real question is where does the Boxee get its timing information from?

Default Live TV: 720x480 4:3 Video Is Being Stretched (Image Too Wide)

@Marcel, I posted a bug report (BOXEE-1263) on Monday on the following issue, but I have #jira-early-access, so not everyone can see it. Unfortunately, Beta 3 still exhibits the problem.

Basically, during the upscale process, Boxee Box is displaying standard definition ClearQAM stations at a ratio of 3:2 (1.5:1) instead of the proper 4:3 (1.33:1). This means that the image on these channels is visually distorted by being stretched. Any chance this will get fixed? It makes watching those stations very annoying. Everyone looks short and fat!

Here's my original bug report for those who don't have #jira-early-access:

I'm using the Live TV dongle with Comcast cable. Some of the ClearQAM channels are in 4:3 standard definition. When I screw the coax directly into my Vizio HDTV, the info screen tells me that the resolution of these channels is 720x480. After enabling the Keep 4:3 Display Aspect Ratio option, I noticed that these channels still looked a little "stretched", with the black bars on the sides being too narrow for a normal 4:3 channel. I double-checked the TV aspect ratio and it was set to Full, not any of the zoom modes, so I knew that was not the problem. Besides, I realized that it's the Boxee Box's job to upscale the 4:3 SD image to 16:9 1080p. Taking out the tape measure, I calculated that Boxee Box is actually displaying these channels at a slightly too wide 3:2 (1.5:1) ratio instead of 4:3 (1.33:1).

I can take pictures of this problem if necessary, but one easy way to spot it is to look for an HD channel that is properly displaying 4:3 content with black bars. Make a mental note of the size of the black bars and then switch to an SD channel and you'll see that the image is slightly too wide. I'm certainly not an expert on this, but I think this has something to do with the pixels of a 720x480 image not being perfectly square. Non-anamorphic DVDs use 720x480 resolution, but the image is properly displayed at 4:3.
The next day, the Severity of the issue was changed to Minor and the bug was left unassigned, so on Wednesday I uploaded pictures showing the problem and left a (somewhat emotional) comment:

With all due respect, I feel that the Severity of this issue is Critical, not Minor. When the Boxee Box is upscaling a 4:3 SD channel, it is unfortunately stretching the image, which causes image distortion and is a significant problem. I've attached some pictures that I think will help to clarify the importance of this issue. The pics are a little blurry, but the first picture is of an HD station showing 4:3 SD material in a proper 4:3 window. Notice the thickness of the black bars. The second and third pictures are shots of This TV, a 720x480 SD channel meant to be shown at 4:3. The second picture is through Boxee Box Live TV, where the image has been upscaled to HD. It's pretty clear that the image is being stretched and distorted when you examine the third picture, which is that same channel as it appears with the Comcast coax plugged directly into my Vizio HDTV. The fact that the thickness of the black bars on the side of the image in the first and third pic is the same proves that proves that the Boxee Box is stretching the image during upscale.

I can't emphasize enough how significant this problem is. This is not a minor problem where the image is slightly off; it is being significantly distorted. A change needs to be made so that all SD channels maintain their proper 4:3 ratio when being upscaled to HD!
Could you look into this issue and see if it is being investigated?

Hmmmm.. i have to come back at the shutdown bug. It's still there.

When I only watch a short video (e.g. an episode of the big bang theory) then I have no problems shutting down. After watching a longer video (e.g. Nikita) then the system won't shutdown via the software...

I had the shutdown problem *always* happening when using one of my BoxeeBoxes offline and connected to an USB hard disk (1.5.final).

My second BoxeeBox is always online, and reproducing files from a NAS PC (via NFS). No USB attached. This box have never had the shutdown problem (both with 1.5.final and 1.5.1.beta3).

So I am wondering this is either related to reproducing contents from a local USB HDD or then when using Boxee offline. I have not investigated this issue further (due to my lack of patience... ).

However I only watch TV series in my Boxes, so usually the longer video is about 45 minutes.

the decimal point for imdb will require you to remove and re-add your sources or files before it will apply the decimal correctly. did you do that?

the id issues are a mess, yes. not much i can say about that right now.

you can go back to any previous firmware you want by factory restoring and applying whatever firmware you want the same way you applied this one.
Well, it's a pity that i have to rescan all my sources, because most of the movies i have are titled in german, so i have to get through every single movie to rename it, but it seems that i don't have a choice. same with the thumbnail issue.
thanks for the tip with the imdb rating, i will try it out.
another thing i noticed, is if i download subtitles and they're not marked as "sync" they actually work pretty well, but i have to readjust the subtitles manually. once done it works for about 3 minutes and then its unsynced again. i hope you get what i mean did you notice anything like that?

i searched the forums and the support section and googled everything on how to downgrade. i know it's not your problem, but do you have a specific link to a how-to-guide and know where i can get the last stable FW?

thank you again thank you for the help.

You'd probably be much better off setting up NFO files once and then you'd never have to rename another movie via Boxee again...

See the NFO Resources sticky post near the top of this forum section.

For previously firmwares and how to downgrade, see READ THIS FIRST: Top Ten Boxee Topics, also a sticky near the top of this forum section.

    Default Manual ID

So it seems manual identification is only fixed in some cases?
