Default Why people are so disguested with boxee.

Some have suggested we shouldn't be and be happy with the betas we are getting as it shows work being done.
Unfortunately thats a shockingly narrow view that doesn't bother to look at boxee behavior or how the beta's work.

The beta's do show work being done but unfortunately they all so show no testing being done and a almost complete lack of focus on the major issues.

The voting system sounds good but seriously does any think the pause icon was causing malfunctions in the box?
It was cosmetic and should have been very low on the list of things to fix but here we are.

People are really disgusted because of boxee behavior and attitude.

There almost no focus on major bug fixing or overhauling the outdated code.

There is no testing being done on their end and bugs that should never make it into a beta are left in it....shows shockingly poor programming practices.

The bug reporting system itself is a mess with bugs be closed or labeled fixed but with end users never seeing those fixes or having no idea whats going on.

Boxee needs to start acting like a professional company and not a bunch of grad kids still fooling around with a idea.

Major issues get addressed first not cosmetic stuff or feature requests.

You test those fixes before you releases them as a beta as the end user is there to help improve and refine the product and not to do the programmers job.

Unfortunately its beginning to look more and more like major issues still in the box aren't going to get fixed anytime so and maybe not at all.
This type of behavior from a company tends to mean they realized they made a mistake with the hardware.

So they move on to version 2 and drop any real support for the first version leaving the users high and dry.
Goes a long way to explain why there such half hearted support for the box.
Hopefully this is wrong but it not looking good.

And for those wondering if people are being whiny and ungrateful there not.
The buyers voicing there disgust and complaints just want boxee to live up to its advertised claims and nothing more.
This is something boxee has failed to do since day one of its release.

This is exactly the problem - there is none. However many gripes I have with Boxee, not only as a product but as a developer, there simply isn't any other viable options that can do what the Boxee does... when it works, that is.

I use the wd tv live and apple tv.

The apple is limited in what it can do but it just basically works without issue.

The wd tv live can use custom firmware to get most of the features the box has.
No box is without issues but those two generally work as promised and issues do get fixed.

Not to mention i can leave either one running for weeks on end and not have to worry about it freezing or turning into a paper weight.

I prefer the wd tv since it plays everything the boxee does without any issue except flv.
It can do cover art with the custom firmware which works far better then boxee.

Kids wont touch the boxee now due to its issues and i can rarely get near the wd tv...lol

The boxee has more social aspects and apps but other then that there are plenty of boxes that do everything else and many which do it better then boxee.

Are there any that do as good a job aggregating content from multiple shares? And allows as quick access to that content?

Yes, Boxee has its quirks & bugs, but overall, it's the box I keep coming back to as my best available all-in-one media streaming solution (local, Internet, ease of use). The only thing that is badly needed is the fix for hd audio, then other things will be icing on the cake.

just like every other piece of technology, they push out updates for their current hardware until it reaches EOL (end of life) due to increased user requests for features that aren't capable on the current hardware or they make some moves to increase features themselves in order to stay competitive.

In order for boxee to stay competitive to be able to offer anything with the upcoming market flood of streaming box's and services changes must be made.

boxee could do some things to make this an easier transition, sure. Are they already doing that, I think so. The support they provide for the low number of employees they have is actually pretty good. What would I suggest?

    • Move to Launchpad. Get back to our FOSS foundation, lpad has bug reporting and question/answers for support.
    • Get into offering some services in order to decrease the cost of the box. Give away the box, make your money on subscriptions and services. Make deals for profit sharing for third party subscriptions.
    • Create a true app store experience. One account on boxee that allows you to use/purchase other apps (and get this, shares a portion of the fee between the dev).

in the end users will buy a new box that offers the features that everyone currently is offering. The question is, is boxee going to be offering one of those many boxe's that has that new cool XYZ feature.

Name two that do it better and define "it".

@magnus33 I understand your frustration but I always hear you say that there are other box's better than Boxee..please can you elaborate? Local content? Online subtitles? 17 languages? Apple Tv ?

Are you still using the Boxee box? Are you using a different setup ?
