Default Mysterious SMB problem, not answered in the threads

I know there is a lot of discussion of SMB issues but a lot of it seems quite old and most of it relates to issues I do not have.

After the recent firmware update Boxee stopped scanning media. It did not do so automatically nor when I specifically told it to rescan a source. I was able to continue playing media already added to the Boxee library and manually navigate to it via "Files," but it would not get added to the library no matter what.

Unable to solve this, I factory reset the Boxee, and updated again to the latest stable firmware.

Now, although Boxee sees my SMB share, and even though I've entered the correct username and password into the "SMB Client" area, when I go to add a share from my SMB server, Boxee simply prompts and re-prompts me for a username and password.

Just to make sure I'm clear--I see the computer name when I go to Settings -> File Sources -> Add Sources -> Windows Network (SMB). But when I select it, it just shows me the computer name again but the menu item that says "Manually Enter IP/Name" goes away. When I select the computer name when it comes up a second time it prompts me to enter a user name and password. When I do so, the dialog box just goes away. If I select the computer name again it just re-prompts me for my username and password.

Meanwhile, I am able to connect to my SMB-sharing computer (which is a Windows 7 machine) just fine from other devices--a Macbook, and an iPhone. Using the very same username and password, of course.

So we have a situation where the Boxee is not able to connect to a local file share that various other devices are. This indicates to me that there is a problem with the Boxee specifically. I'd really rather not have to set up some messy and non-standard way to share files from my PC to the Boxee when other devices can access the PC just fine as it is. Am I overlooking some way to get the Boxee to connect to my SMB share?

I'm seeing similar weirdness. I'm running a Wondows domain with a domain controller which is also a WINS and DNS server so my situation is a little different, but here's what I'm seeing:

My media shares are all shared out with access to the user Xbox. In the network settings I've told Boxee to use my workgroup, username and password. It does connect to my media shares, but like you it doesn't seem to scan them automatically every hour like I've told it to. I have to hit the refresh source option, and then it adds the media to my library.

But another weird thing - With the last release, I was able to browse SMB shares that I didn't have "mounted" already. These shares did not allow access to the xbox user, so when I clicked on them I would enter a different username and password, and I could browse them with no problem. But with the latest release I'm seeing the same thing you are - I keep getting prompted for a username and password over and over. Not sure where the issue is, and I've been too lazy to check the security logs of my Windows servers to see what credentials Boxee is passing.
    I have lots of computers.

    Same problem.

Please provide a fix for this. Really annoying that i can't access new smb share anymore. I don't take the risk to do a factory reset, If the problem would still exist then it will become an expensive paperweight.

I admit I like the new gui, and I would rather avoid a downgrade on the firmware.
