You are out of luck unfortunately. Shaw provides their basic package through NTSC, which is why you can get them on your TV and not the Boxee (Boxee Live TV requires digital clearQAM and even then it doesn't give you everything).

I made the same mistake you did and bought it because of this reason.

well looks like I waisted 75$ wish I would have known this prior to spending the money. I was under the impression when i bought it that i would be able to get channels since when i plug it into tv i get them. is there anyway to return it? so far im not impressed at all with the boxee it has potention to be great but mine constantly freezes, wireless stoped working and only works wired, and now the live tv dont work.

This is not the case for everyone (or even most people I suspect) though I know you have an issue with this that you've reported to Boxee.

As a counter example, I am able to receive all the same clear QAM channels via the Boxee tuner that either of my two TVs get.

Exact same thing for me... I'm not an expert at this stuff or familiar with all the terminology, but I thought if I get a channel when the coaxial cable is connected directly to my TV then I would expect the channel would work with the boxee tuner as I never used a cable box so I knew the channels weren't scrambled or anything...

Yeah, smaller towns may not have switched from NTSC to Clear QAM yet. I'm in Edmonton and Shaw uses Clear QAM out here. You should call up other providers like Cogeco if they're out in Thunder Bay and see what they broadcast in.

Either way, sounds like you have a good bargaining chip to talk your way into getting cheaper cable service from your provider. "I really wish this signal was in Clear QAM! This NTSC stuff is a huge hassle for me! Give me a good reason why I should stay with you and your NTSC service"... They'll probably give you a sweet promotion and you'll save the money you spent on the Boxee Dongle.

The provided antennae has a ~10NM radius, but I notice it's range is pretty poor with a range of closer to 9NMs (I'm only getting 2 out of 8 stations and the 6 stations I'm not picking up at 10.2NMs away). You could upgrade to an indoor-amplified antennae that claim to increase your range to 50NM like the MOHU leaf ( http://www.gomohu.com/leaf-plus-ampl...dtv-antenna-1/ ). Mine's in the mail and I'll see how well it works.

When I entered your postal code into TvFool, it shows that you should be able to get 4 channels (CBC, Global, TVO, SRC). The question is now, is purchasing a 95$ antennae worth it for these 4 chans?

If no cable provider offers Clear QAM, you could probably sell off your Dongle on Kijiji AT PRICE. I hear there's a big back order on the dongles so antsy users will be willing to pay

    Good luck

While waiting for my Dongle to arrive in the mail, I read a post saying that for cities of over 100K plugging it into the cable outlet will NOT work unless you have paid Clear QAM signal from a provider.

I completely missed the "NOT" part, spent a couple hours re-running my cable just to get skunked on signal. I furiously searched and tracked that post down only to then for my eyes to be able to see the "NOT" word. Nooooooo! Hahaha!

My Boxee Live-TV experience has been somewhat a flight-of-the-conchord-experience. I have 2 channels now, hoping that my mohu will get me 8. I'm jealous of our Americans who are getting 90+ from an OTA!

Then again, we have better beer.
