    Default Freezing and more :(

Hello everyone, I am really new to boxee, but after doing some research, I thought it would be a good fit, but i have been having some issues with my boxee box

I have had my boxee box for three weeks...and in that time, it has frozen on shutdown about 10-12 times. I have checked the scan settings, and I have them set so they only scanned once, when I setup my media sources.

The other problem I have been having is at some random time, usually after closing the browser, the screen goes black, then comes back up with these scrambled colors, but you can still just barely see theboxee software shadowed behind all the colors....(does that make sense?) the only solution is to manual shutdown and wait for reboot, and it comes back normal.

Anyway, I am wondering how common these are...I am considering just returning the thing, and going back to using my Xbox360 for everything until Boxee can work the bugs out of their product.

Any help would be great, Thank you

Weird crashing and other odd symptoms make it sound to me as if your firmware and/or the internal database have become corrupted. It's also common for the latest firmware version v1.5 to require a 'Factory Restore' when updating from any pre-v1.5 firmware, in order for the new firmware to run stable and without database corruption (due to database structure conflicts between the old and the new firmwares).

If I were you I'd make a 'Factory Restore' of that box, using the recovery menu, and then I'd use the recovery menu to re-install v1.5.0.23615 from USB. (So not the newer beta firmware that came after it.) That is the most stable v1.5 release made as yet, and is also what you would get through auto-upgrade over internet. But an install from USB is safer, and after your troubles so far you'll want to make sure it gets done right.

After such an update (really due to the 'Factory Restore') you'll have to reconfigure the box from scratch and re-add your sources (with full re-scan), but it's well worth it if it can eliminate the problems you mentioned, like it has done for many others.

But if the box still has such problems after doing the above, then those problems are probably due to hardware faults, and then you should of course return it for refund or exchange.

    Best regards: Ronald
