Don't know what was the difference from the firmwares as it wasn't able to save it in the previous 1.5 firmwares but at least I am able to save those settings again. Yay!
Yet another mystery that just 'evaporates' without explanation...

I'm of course happy for your successful results, but i sure would like to know what was going on there. It's so weird that we've done exactly the same procedure, with extremely similar setups, and still got differing results with build 23615.

Still, all's well that ends well, and there's no point in pondering over it now that it's past. (But it's still hard to avoid... )

    Best regards: Ronald

I haven't tried the latest Boxee Beta firmware, but from the release notes it doesn't look like it helps with SMB . . . However, I just updated my OS X Lion -- the latest maintenance release included fixes to "windows sharing" . . . Fixes that, for me at least, seem to have now made the Boxee Box completely unable to access my iMac via SMB. It just keeps asking me to log in over and over again (via "add file sources") or nothing happens at all when I click on a source folder (via "files").

Since this happened after an update of the SMB code at the iMac end of the connection, my primary guess is that you need to reconfigure it thoroughly to make it work right again.

The stable v1.5 firmware, as well as the two betas that followed it, all work perfectly with the SMB of my three PCs, two running 'Windows XP Pro' and one running 'Windows 2000 server' OS, with minor variations in the SMB protocol between them. Yet all work perfectly with these firmware versions of the Boxee Box. (These firmwares do have some other bugs, but none that affect my SMB usage.)

    Best regards: Ronald

Then I have to repeat these steps all over again (or else I get error messages when trying to play back files; and nothing happens at all if I try to access folders in the file browser) after each reboot; seems like Boxee just refuses to remember the log-credentials between reboots (even when I set a username& password in the SMB settings)....

If it's a bug a lot of people are experiencing I guess I'll have to wait for a fix .... But if it's only affecting some people ten maybe I should try a full factory restore of the box (already tried "reset" in settings, but it didn't help).

Yeah i have the same problem, i can't get boxee to remember my password or login either. Worse is that i have to retype it like 5 times... maybe i'm doing/typing it wrong? But i have shared 4 directorys on different harddrives so maybe it asks for password for each drive?

I could not get it working despite trying everything outlined here. In the end I installed Boxee Media Server on my Homeserver and connected through that. Works perfectly.

So if anyone else cannot manage to get it working, here is link to a thread which has a link to some Boxee Box related files, including the final version of Boxee Media Manager (Boxee no longer host or support Boxee Media Manager). BMM should just be a last resort though.
