I really hope so too, but they said on JIRA board that if we want some feature to be added, we should post to this forum, which lead me to believe, that they read it once in a while.

That's for feature requests, in that section. I wouldn't expect them to even glance at each thread, never mind each post...

And in any case, for this issue, it's a non-issue for them; it's already fixed (was stated early on it would be), and Boxee stopped announcing release dates in advance (for the most part) almost a year ago. I don't expect that to change any time soon.

It's a non-issue for them, but it's still an issue for us.
And I still don't understand, why it's so hard to release a hotfix for a major bug.
Why can't they make an optional update with this opensubtitles issues fixed?
A lot of people would be happy about it.

I just remembered that when I asked how to connect Boxee Box to PC w/o a router in "Boxee Box Help" section, I got a reply from a developer in PM, so, I guess, they do monitor this forum once in a while.

    Network setup question
    Hi,

You connected the Boxee directly to the PC with the second NIC (Network interface), right?

Do you have full internet access through in the box? the boxee browser/streaming apps work well?

You're talking about me. But no one at Boxee laughed in anyone's face that I know of.

Ok, so you managed to find one fairly unique example of a company which seems to have a good policy of user participation. Unfortunately this doesn't alter the fact that the majority of the corporate world is set violently against all such policies. I don't like that fact myself, but it's one we're all forced to live with.

    D-Link claim on http://www.dlink.com/boxee/:
    [*]“Boxee is an open platform"
That is simply a lie, of the kind we should all expect from any commercial company. Whether it's D-Link, Boxee or any other company, they will say anything that is likely to increase their revenue.

Besides, from the point of view of D-Link the statement can be considered true, in a way, as it is not they who limit the firmware development.

[*]"We usually send out upgrades, fixes and patches a few times a month."
That is at least partly true, Boxee betas with such upgrades, fixes and patches are released here in our forums, usually with several such releases between any supposedly 'stable' firmwares (the ones used for auto-upgrades).

Hmmm. Time for a class action?
    On what possible grounds ?

Claims of the kind you quoted here are not in any way legally binding.

You'd need to have the same statements in a legally binding contract of some form, in order to get any useful results from legal action, and before those results materialize you (or your class action group) would have to pay all legal costs out of your own pocket, with utter ruin facing you if the case is lost (which it most likely would be).

    Best regards: Ronald

Can you point me to beta upgrades, please?
Just browsed through the most of sections, couldn't find anything.

Is there a new beta (with subtitles issue fixed) already?

The idealist in me is revolting, the realist thinks "you have a point here".

Again, the idealist thinks "but it's still D-Links responsibility as they sell the boxes ...".

True, but sometimes with three-month voids in between "final" releases and the next beta. We've just been served the lastest "final" release ...

Apologies for stepping on some peoples' toes. We Europeans sometimes have a quaint sense of humour. This wasn't meant to be taken seriously

Folks, I do love my box in spite of the little issues we sometimes get through the various updates. It's just the tinkerer in me that sometimes gets the upper hand and cries "I could fix this if I only had access to the source code". Darci has pointed me to the Boxee beta program (thanks!) which I will consider. And I still can go back to my trusty HTPC if I really want to play with code.

Let's all hope that Boxee gets that subtitle fix dished out sometime soon.

So interesting. But when can users update to this version?
