Canadians w/Netflix - Don't forget to crank your Quality Settings

Hi:

I'm amazed at how many Canadians out there don't know that unless they go in their Account Settings and crank their Video Quality Settings that they won't get the best quality video/audio from Netflix.

Click "Your Account & Help" -> "Manage Video Quality" -> "Best Quality"

They came out with the "Good Quality" stuff so they wouldn't piss off ISP's when they were being spotlighted for download caps, but the CRTC didn't approve it. Your ISP's can't charge you or punish you for downloading past your monthly "limits" so go ahead and enjoy "Best Quality"

Check out unblock-us.com if you want US Netflix too! I wish I would've known about that site a long time ago.

ummm, many Canadians stuck with Rogers or Bell have limits. Or the unlimited costs $$$

good point, most ppl are aware of it and they actually set it to lowest because they're Bell/Rogers customers!

Cranked mine a long time ago.....I'm with Shaw. Never had any warnings etc from them.

Good reminder though, as a lot of new users might not know of this option.

I'm with Shaw and I have a 400GB/Month "Limit" but I called them and asked them what happens if I go over the 400GB Limit and they told me that because of the CRTC's ruling that they can't do anything about it.

Thus... I went WAY OVER IT!

I didn't experience speed restrictions and I wasn't charged anything extra. You should check with Bell/Rogers and see what actually happens if you go over limit?

That just shows you went over, not that you weren't charged. Are there any online stories or documents that says CRTC prohibits Rogers from capping or charging overages?

I did my due diligence by following the CRTC court cases, and calling Shaw and asking... I'm leaving this one up to you to find out since I'm not even with Bell or Rogers... I'm not doing your dirty-work.

This was a great month... The court case fell through, BlockBuster went Belly Up in Canada, and Shaw put me on a crazy fast Internet promotion.

I thought I'd treat myself by picking up a QNAP 659 Pro II NAS, load it up with 16TB worth of drives, and take it for a 1080P collection spin to test out those download & bandwidth "Caps", as well as PeerBlock.

It adds up fast... really fast!
