It might use a very small amount of bandwidth, since it's supposed to update the weather information which is part of the screen info. And it might also make occasional checks for contact with the online Boxee server, but there should be no significant file transfers, except possibly when a new firmware release is made.
I do, but that's a matter of personal preference.Do I always leave it turned on?
Some firmware versions have shown slowdown effects when the box is left on for long periods, due to 'resource leak' bugs. But I'm not aware of any such for the current beta version. (And leaving it on for long periods is the only way to find out anyway...)
Best regards: Ronald
The Boxee box will use bandwidth if you have external file sources and have it set to scan them. If you want to minimize bandwidth use, set the scan option to "once" or "never."
I'm a little OCD so I turn the box off overnight, but there's no real for doing so.
I turn it off when I am done with it, I know people that have left it on for over a year with no issues.
I turn it off as well but I think it is really a matter of personal preference... bandwidth use is going to be negligible and power consumption is fairly minimal (~13w)

I usually leave my on, or in "sleep" mode for days at a time. I do a full shutdown every few days to take care of the resource leaks Ronald mentions, which tend to slow the unit down over time.
Note that the "sleep" mode on the Boxee Box is not a true sleep mode. The Intel ATOM CE4100 chip has no ability to enter a low-power mode, so the Boxee Box burns nearly as much power in its so-called "sleep" mode as it does when it's fully powered on.

what about your external drive (w/ power-cord) that also plugged into your Boxee Box ?
Do you turn it off or keep it on ?
Thanks!
