just installed it and tried it out - works like a charm! the gesture based control thing is gonna take some getting used to but it makes for the coolest remote control i've ever owned...
am i imagining things or does two finger scrolling do something different than regular scrolling?
edit: this also makes using xmote and the other xbmc remote control app obsolete, hopefully everybody's keeping up with the announcements so as not to spend money needlessly at the app store...

Havent got a jailbroken phone so am just going on the description, screenshots and thread comments.
The shots look really nice, but I had expected feature parity or superiority with Xmote - right now that seems a better option.
Can you comment of plans to expand the capability of the boxee remote app?
Not sure if this has been asked already, couldn't find any references... will you be releasing the sourcecode of the iPhone application?
Asside from the fact I have an iPhone developer license (and can compile for devices) to test with, it would be great to be able to contribute.
I'm really looking forward to being able to control boxee without the TV using up electricity just for playing music, although from the screenshots I'm not sure if this is possible yet.
Cheers, sam
Wow. Someone on the #boxee IRC channel just mentioned this and I went and installed it on my jailbroken first gen iPhone.
It fired up, found my macbook and started working with zero configuration. Very slick.
I find the gesture based nav to be awkward, but the button based nav works great. Love it.
Honestly the only thing so far that I wish it did is pop up an iPhone on screen keyboard when Boxee wants text input. It would be even more amazing if it would allow you to rotate the iPhone to landscape to get the bigger keyboard buttons for those of us with fat fingers.
With the addition of ABC feeds, Boxee finally crossed the "Wife Acceptance Factor" threshhold enough that I'm looking for a used MacMini to put under the TV. We both have iPhones, this, when available to her non-jailbroken iphone, just makes it that much more impressive.
I second the call for the source to be opened. I've got a copy of XCode right here, and while I've not yet forked over the $99 version to allow upload, that's coming. I'd love to contribute.
Would love to be able to use this as a "remote" remote - i.e. without looking at the TV.. Much like Apple's own remote iPhone app for iTunes. Maybe just for music!
Just downloaded via Cydia at work and can't wait to try when I get home with my AppleTV! From the sounds of it, it's very basic at the moment. Beyond the good suggestions for keyboard support, since the iPhone / iPod touch have gyroscopes in them, how about some WiiMote-like control of what's going-on on my screen?
This is my big complaint about TiVo, that their interface is very linear and they haven't innovated to give us the "next" paradigm in useability. Wii has done a great job of this and so have the HillCrest Labs people with their "loop" pointer. Seems like all the guts for making a really nice controller are in the iPhone / iPod touch, if there were a way to exploit it in boxee's interface (which does mouse control, no?).
Don't mean to be punching a gift horse in the mouth, though! Thanks for creating this remote app, good people of boxee!
A few months ago, There was an app called Podcaster that apple kicked off of the App Store. I was able to go to the developer's site and download the app, drag it into my iTunes apps, then key in a code supplied to me by the developer. I was then able to install the app onto my un-JailBroken iPhone.
Any chance this process could be followed with the Boxee app???
thank you guys for everything. You guys made me to go and buy a Mac mini just for using boxee (apple really should thanks you...! Lol ) I downloaded the iphone remote app, and it works great. NO configuration wow thats nice.
great job
