I dont know anyone who uses boxee, let alone anyone else with a media pc. The social side to boxee is baffling me a bit. Whats the point? Most people, ie 90% at least just buy a dvd player and a tv and are happy with that. Most with a computer dont bother with media centers.
@ perrin21 i believe you are in the minority (as you can see from forum)as i like to share my recommendations not only with my friends ..most people find a new application and like to share it with their friends (e.g there would be no point of a messenger if you kept it to yourself)![]()
I must be, but if i sent a mass mailer to everybody in my msn messenger list and my Facebook etc, then i would get plenty of intrest im sure but as soon as i mentioned its mac or linux that would reduce my friends list to one as everyone else uses windows. Also even though i know one person with a mac he isnt interested in HTPC stuff and that would reduce my options to nil again. Just struggling to understand how people on here find so many friends to share their info with and how they benefit when nothing but recommendations are shared (no media) . I found this quote on your faq "if you have an Intel based Mac OSX 10.5 (Leopard), then this is your lucky day. you're one of the 0.05% (estimate) people in the world that can use boxee." This shows that its not the point that i dont have many friends (like you imply) but that there isnt enough interest or ability to use Boxee. You could reduce that figure dramatically further if you included all of the people who had even heard of Boxee, and further still for all of those people with at least one friend with the same interest and money to go out and purchase a dedicated computer to use it on.
Im not being negative, im just trying to find a use for Social networking a HTPC when you cant share your media properly, let alone find someone to share just recommendations with.
Also these are your own statistics for the Forum

I trust this is worldwide, i dont know any of the 707 members of Boxee and id love a suggestion (apart from paying for a dedicated computer and loading it up with media for my friend) as to how i am supposed to begin to appreciate the benefits of Boxee. I just want to make the most of it. As far as i can see, this is the main difference between Boxee and other media centers out there. Xbmc for instance.
by the way we are building a window version for boxee soon..so you can send your msn and facebook friends an invitationalso the numbers you were using were registered users to the forum not to boxee which are lot more..the most important issue is to enjoy boxee whether you want to share it , send a recommendation or not..

perrin21,
Do you have zero vision?
I could give you a long detailed reply as to why social networking around your media is going to be huge a few years from now, but rather than do that I'll just point to the fact that all the exciting new social trends that relate to technology are based around either people sharing information or user generated content.
Blogging, open source software, social networking, youtube, user generated news sites like Digg, wikipedia, etc.
Everything is about allowing consumers to share their ideas and thoughts and to allow them to create stuff and interact based around that stuff. If you honestly believe that 5 years from now people are still going to be watching movies in isolation with no contact with other movie watchers then you are very much mistaken.
Of course Boxee today doesn't yet do all these wonderful things, it basically just lets you see what your friend has played recently and that not that exciting, but seriously dude, do you have no vision for the future? Boxee is going to be adding new features for years to come.
