Default Tips on Increasing Network Streaming speeds

I have a shared drive on my desktop computer than I store HD movies on. M2ts files are small enough to not be an issue but larger files require a lot of buffering.
    Any tips eliminating this issue?

    Thanks

If you're experiencing buffering issue over SMB, then it's a known issue in current firmware, which will be solved in next fw release ,hopefully !! Also try a wired connection to BoxeeBox if it's wired.
The only other way to get rid of buffering issue is to setup haneWIN NFS server on Windows PC and access your content using NFS from BB. See here for further details http://forums.boxee.tv/showthread.ph...ht=hanewin+nfs

That post was from the beginning of January, it's now the beginning of May and the boxee that I just bought, and updated, won't play any video files on my (wired, windows XP SP3) network without buffering the heck out of them making them unwatchable. Not just HD stuff but SD as well. Is this going to be fixed in the next week or should I just take this thing back to the shop and get my money back? I bought this expecting it to be able to carry out it's basic functionality, not just be an ornament in my living room.

If everything always buffers, then there's something not quite with either your network/equipment or with the computer that has the files.

You can try debugging your setup, using NFS (see post above yours with link), or you can bail now and get your money back.

As I have posted separately, I'm also having buffering issues with SMB. I had switched from UPnP since everyone said SMB was better, but with everything else the same except for the firmware update, I get constant buffering in SMB. I've gone back to UPnP where buffering doesn't really seem to be a problem.

I remember using an NFS server with the PCH A100 called MyIhome years ago so I'll give this one a crack and see if it does the trick, seems pretty simple to set up, thanks

EDIT: FFS it costs $35! I don't really want to spend another $35 on haneWIN to get boxee to do what it is sposed to do on its' own

...Damn, it seems to work pretty well, everything plays nice and smooth with it running. may just have to cough up the dollars

It's $19 for the personal license. Worth every penny IMO. Not had a single buffer since, and I've streamed some very large files that used to buffer every 5 seconds when I was using SMB.

EDIT: Sorry, €19 I meant, which is $25 at the current exchange rate
