Default Does anyone have a Boxee Box remote they don't use?

    Hi guys,

So, the battery in my 1 year old Boxee box remote has corroded somehow and wrecked my remote. No idea how, but it's completely broken!

D-link are about as much use as Anne Frank's drumkit trying to get a replacement, does anyone have an unused working Boxee box remote they'd want to sell? Prefs in the UK but anywhere will do fine and I'd cover shipping.

    Thanks! Andy

I don't have a spare remote, but my guess is some kind of liquid got into that remote and corroded the battery.

It sits in a proper remote housing next to the TV, there isn't any sign of liquid or liquid damage, but there is signs that the internal grey/blue acid from the battery has leaked from under the seal and burnt the components. Looks like a faulty cheap battery to be honest!

You can order a remote from Amazon.

Edit: I just noticed the UK requirement. Maybe Amazon UK also sells them.

I saw these. Are they not the ones that come with a receiver for use on mac/pc? Or do you think it'll work with a Boxee Box straight away? I have a US forwarding address so could get from Amazon US as for some reason they're not sold in the uk!

Have you tried to call D-Link UK and ask for the BB remote?? They must have spare remotes

I just downloaded an app for my android (samsung galaxy s2) phone that acts as a remote and seems to work well. Only issue I have with it is that (unlike the remote), the screen is completely flat, so you need to look down at the phone to see which button you're pressing.

May be a good option if you already have a suitable phone?

That can happen with cheap batteries. They corrode, spring a leak, then battery acid gets everywhere and your device is toast. Most batteries, after they have been used for a while, become highly acidic and corrode easily. A new, unused battery won't have this problem.

If it has been a year, I doubt D-Link will offer to replace it. Your best option is to order a new remote from Amazon.com, if you are not satisfied with the Android and iPhone remotes that are available. Those are pretty good, but ya, you have to look down at them when using them, which is inconvenient.

Your story makes me want to consider proactively changing my battery on a regular basis.

I didn't even realize that these were marketed for the PC/Mac. I thought they were replacement remotes. Maybe they use the same RF as the Boxee Box remote. I would think they do, but I don't know for sure since I have not needed an extra one.

Maybe someone can chime in that has purchased one and let su know if it does indeed work with the Boxee Box.

If you scroll down to 'Product Description' in the Amazon link above you'll notice it says...

"No Line of Sight Necessary: Unlike infrared TV remotes, the Boxee Remote uses RF signals, so there's no need to even point it at the TV--it can even go through walls, like Superman. Or the Incredible Hulk.

Low-Profile Receiver: Nano-sized USB adapter hides from view once plugged into your computer's USB port--ultra compact and stays out of your way."
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------

I would contact D-Link and ask if the remote will function with the BBox before considering one and if the USB receiver is necessary for use on the BBox

I doubt you will find anyone who will part with their BBox remote since it's the only way to 'remotely' power on the BBox
