Default Step by step tutorial for the newbie...

    Hi,

I am completely new to Boxee, have read through the site, looked at the diagrams, and I still don't get it. It seems that there are several different ways to use Boxee, but I am not sure what is best for me. Here is my current situation. We have been without cable for the past 17 years. For the past several years we have used a Roku box with Netflix and Hulu Plus connected wirelessly to a router with dsl access in order to provide us with "cable on the cheap." However, we gave up Netflix recently when they changed their plans. Now I am looking into Boxee as an alternative to Hulu Plus and Netflix, but don't know what exactly I am researching. As for technology, we have 10 gigabit/second dsl and the roku box. We have no antennas nor satellite dish. Our home computers are connected to a router wirelessly and run Windows 7. We live in a rural area and would only pick up 3 or 4 local stations if we had an outdoor antenna. With that information, can anyone suggest to me the best Boxee setup for our home? All advice is appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,
    Diffie

Are you trying to set up a Boxee Box or use the Boxee software on a computer (if so, which OS?)

But i think, you misunderstand a bit what boxee is (or i do)

Boxee is something like a mediacenter. You connect it with your TV and boxee give you a nice frontend for different net-serivces like youtube, netflix, mubi grooveshark etc. Without access to this service its "only" a mediaplayer for vidos/music from local storage. (i think, it is quite similar to your roku-box)
