I'm having the same problem on a C2Duo 2.0 Mac mini. There must be something in the binary which is incompatible with Mac minis.

Also having this issue on my Macbook C2Duo 2.16 with 4GB Ram running Snow Leopard.. It installs and runs without any problem on my newer i7 Macbook Pro, but on the C2Duo Macbook it won't even launch (0.9 runs fine on the old Macbook)

Boxee have acknowledged this problem. It is caused by a bug in the latest build. Tech support sent me the link to the bug report. You can track it here: http://jira.boxee.tv/browse/BOXEE-12096

And I'm guessing they don't really care.

Before the Boxee Box, the Mac Mini users were the bread and butter boxee users.

I still use my MacMini (as well as two Boxee Boxes in the house) and I'm saddened that support is being dropped for the Mini. I need the Mini, to run EyeTV DVR and to watch live TV (HDHomeRun). I enjoy that I'm only one click away from Boxee for my local files.

But 1.5 just hoses the mini. Unfortunately, when I installed it and it died on launch. I was more concerned about getting it back to a working state than capturing my crash logs.

    Please re-prioritize this bug fix.

“If you are a current Boxee user on a computer we hope that you will enjoy 1.5 and maybe when you are ready to retire that good ol’ HTPC/Mac Mini you will decide to get a Boxee Box.”
This official statement of team boxee (as published on deviceguru.com) sounds like a joke after what I went trough the last weeks trying to give boxee another chance.

As I am one of many who used a mac mini to run boxee before the 1.5 update, I was really disappointed that firstly 1.5 is crashing on a lot of minis (mine included) and secondly they cease the development of the free boxee software.

Consequently I was "ready to retire that good ol' HTPC/Mac Mini" and I went out and picked up a boxee box for 220$. I was using the box for almost a month until I finally sent it back today. All the content played just fine, but I was stunned about how bad the overall performance was in the menus. I have 400+ movies and it was impossible to scroll the list without constant hiccups and reloading of cover art. Sometimes it took up to 30 seconds to see a movie cover and sometimes it never showed at all. Also the scanning and identifying process took ridiculously long. Additionally I encountered several other problems, mostly with recognizing files. For example, I had some correctly recognized files which did not show up in the movie library. The "funniest" thing that happened was when the boxee-remote-keyboard started to produce random keys when trying to type. Nothing a restart (one of many) could not fix.

Just for information, I started with the latest official firmware version which was available when I got my box in early January 2012. I also tried the two betas which came out the weeks after and performed a factory reset in-between. But sadly, that did not solve the performance and recognizing issues either.

Now I'm back using my "good 'ol" mini and the 0.93 version of boxee. Works like a charm in comparison! The only thing it cannot do is play 1080p's. That's why I ordered a Zotac Zbox today and also i'm going to make myself familiar with xbmc eden using the xeboo skin.

all in all it was nice as long as it lasted...

    cheers!

Seriously? Can somebody from Boxee please verify this on this post or on the bug report?

I'm about to try a Boxee Box to get around this, but if they previous poster says that the applicance is that bad, then I'll just move on to some other technology, or just stick with 0.9 the way it is. Sad. bye bye boxee.

Called that one! I hope they don't think they are pushing me to purchase a Boxee Box, NEVER!
