Angry Boxee 1.5 Crashes at Startup on MacMini

The latest version is crashing at startup on my MacMini. I have tried manually uninstalling everything, rebooting, and doing a fresh install but the problem continues. I understand this is supposedly the last iteration of the desktop client, but it doesn't even work!

After patiently waiting for a new update for over a year, it is unbelievable that when it finally arrives it doesn't work. I do hope that you can fix this bug before pulling the plug, or better still reconsider your plans to ditch support for the desktop.

I enclose the OSX crash report which hopefully will identify the problem:

    Default Me too

V1.5.0 DOA on a Mac Mini. If you have a Mac Mini, do NOT install.

Does anyone know if there is a way to get the previous version (0.9, I think)?

same problem here. I am using Mac Mini with Snowleopard and boxee.tv crashes at startup.

I tried to re-install the old version on top again but it is not even starting.

Any idea how to fix it without re-scanning my library?

ps: v1.5 is working fine on my MacBook Air with Lion.

boxee-0.9.23.15885.dmg has worked fine on my MacMini for the last year or so. It is only the latest version 1.5 that doesn't work.

some people, me included, already reported crashes on mac minis in this thread:

    http://forums.boxee.tv/showthread.php?t=50445

i've got a mac mini (1,83 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) and the new boxee release continues to crash when i try to start it. black screen for several seconds and then an error message: "boxee quit unexpectedly". tried it with and without my old "UserData". rebooting does not help either.

i used 0.9.23 on osx 10.5 on this machine for over a year now. upgraded to osx 10.6 today to give boxee 1.5 a try and then this...

for me going back to 0.9.23 is the only solution right now... hopefully someone comes up with a fix.

    cheers!
additionally i tried to create a new user to make sure there are no leftovers from my previous boxee install. still getting the "boxee quit unexpextedly" message after starting 1.5. - reinstalling boxee 0.9.23 works fine - but then again, i waited a long time for this update.

    any suggestions? thanks!

here is my crash report aswell:

My MacMini is the Mid 2007 model but has had both RAM, HD & CPU upgrades over the years. It has the following specs:

    - 2Ghz Core 2 Duo
    - 4Gb DDR2 SDRAM
    - Intel GMA 950 64Gb Graphics
    - Mac OSX Lion 10.7.2

    Hope this helps.

Reinstalling Boxee 0.9.23 works fine, but does kind of defeat the point of the upgrade...

try to delete the 1.5. boxee app and the BOXEE folder* before re-installing the 0.9.23 version. then, after the install is complete, copy your backed up BOXEE folder with your original userdata uncluding the library back to the Application Support folder. worked for me.

Thank you Quasmaster. This worked for me too.

At the end I managed to run v1.5 on my Mac Mini. I am usually connecting my mac mini via screen share or TeamViewer to handle maintenance tasks. I initially installed Boxee v1.5 over TeamViewer connection and it crashed every time I start it from the remote desktop.

Later on I did a clean install from Mac Mini (without remote connection) and it worked ok. I even copied my old library files and it recognized my collection. However it was not working very stable. It was crashing every time I try to identify a video. Sometimes it was crashing on idle.

I decided to wait a more stable version. I installed back the old 0.9.23. It is also crashing time to time but looks more stable than v1.5 at this stage.

I tried this but no change - it still crashes on launch.

It seems 1.5 is full of bugs - aside from this crash issue. I think we may be getting to the bottom of why Boxee has decided to abandon development of the desktop versions. The problems of keeping the code base stable across multiple platforms is clearly beyond them. It seems they have just pushed out a nightly build with little or no testing, with the hope that it would in some way diminish the understandable outcry at the decision to cancel development entirely....

I feel this decision is going backfire on them in the long term.... It's a great shame.
