    Default Bittersweet & Questions

Excited for the new release, but sadden by the EOL of this portion of the project. It has been a great run! I still believe that some (mainly uber geeks on these forums) will prefer an HTPC solution than a Set Top Box solution, but I'm glad that the company knows the direction they need to run to be successful. I am still waiting for a Boxee TV, and with the whole crew focused on the Integrated TV/Set Top Box solutions maybe we will see it sooner.

Will the 1.5 release be compatible with 3rd party apps (particularly Fuzz's Launcher App)? Or will the app developer need to update their apps?

The blog post mentioned Boxee Live TV adapter, will this be available PC/Mac/Ubuntu users or this still only an add-on feature for the Boxee Box?

The Boxee software will be Open Sourced in the feature, is this correct?

I totally agree with this sentiment, even though it's been my plan to phase out my HTPC; however plans change and for other reasons, I'm not sure I can still get rid of my HTPC so I may end up looking at Plex for the long-term whole-home solution.

Per the announcement for Live TV it will only be available on the Boxee Box.

I am currently using just the server end of Plex on my HTPC to stream all of my content to my roku box. I haven't really looked into the client side though. I may have to check it out.

Blast! Just hoping and dreaming I guess. If the Live TV adapter would work on the software side, I would no doubt stick with boxee. I can figure out work arounds for Netflix... etc.

Oops, forgot some parts of boxee were already opensource. You think the bxplayer will open up or does boxee licence it from another company?

Well, guess I will load this up on my Acer Aspire and take it for a spin.

    @Marcel

This release is appreciated although somewhat late. My question is why can team boxee not prerelease the 1.5 version at the same time? Meaning now?
I like many have my holidays now and the freezing of the Box in the middle of movies irritates me. There are so many good and loyal user here, why not make their holiday a happy one by prereleasing the BB 1.5 firmware version?

You are saying that the future is in devices like the Boxee Box. Well my advice is make them work properly first. I have no problem paying for something also a next device if you make it work properly. Otherwise I feel cheated.

    Default Netflix removed?

So by the content of this post, it appears that netflix will be removed from your boxee installation if you update to 1.5 from the 9.xxx ... or does it retain whatever netflix functionality was in 9.xxx

    ???

might seem like a stupid question to some, but for the rest of us, we'd like to make sure before we bother to update.

    The simple answer is greed.

They aren't going to release it tell they can get the dongles out.
They want you to spend more money and i have no issues with spending money but it has to work.

That is the problem though since presently boxee box only sort of works.

If they could have gotten the dongles out for xmas or boxing day you can be sure the firmware would have been out now.

It would be dropped since boxee no longer supports the software.
No update would be installed when net-flicks updated there app .

So they aren't going to leave it in and netflicks certainly isn't going to want it out there broke and giving them possible bad press.

Donwloading now. I am happy to give it another chance, like I told Avner when he came out with his blog post a few months ago.

Well, it seems the 1.5 update for MAC is a total fail so far, at least for me.
Would not find my network for 5 minutes (it did after I waited a while)
Finds but will not identify 90% of my TV & Movie library.
Crashes when I try to manually identify a Movie or Show
    Crashes when I run Navi-X
Browser quits unexpectedly 50% of the time
Mouse will not work, have to use arrow keys for navigation.
No Netflix any longer (no problem as you can just go to your Netflix account online)
Forces full screen display to the main screen, will not display on the secondary screen.

On the plus side I really like the new UI and menu system, that just need to fix the bugs, I am running a 27" quad core i7 under Lion.

Exactly the same problems with Ubuntu 11.10.

    Ugh...

Plus, the fonts are all messed up and has crashed every single time so far.

    Thanks, but no thanks.
