Could get some really great ideas and fixes that much faster.

Wd tv live has a custom firmware for its older box because of this and its a fantastic upgrade.
    Don't mope about it.

Boxee is clearly moving away from community-development to a commercial entity. 1.5 appears to be the last of the freeware support and a half-hearted effort at that. So what? It's their choice. They have every right to do so.

If you don't like it - START YOUR OWN OPEN-SOURCE DEVELOPMENT COMMUNITY. You don't need Boxee's official endorsement. A few years back, a group in the YaBB open-source Forum development community decided that they preferred a different direction than the rest of the community. So they went off as a splinter group and developed the fairly successful Simple Machines Forum (SMF) software. Both the original YaBB and newer SMF forum software are doing well.

People who are as passionate about it as you sound are just who are needed to energize such groups in the early phases...

I have to give you credit its been sometime since i seen some one so entirely miss the point.

If you been paying attention you know most of the other boxes out there are not open source but do encourge outside development and even help.

Wd Tv live custiom firmware doesn't alter the stock firmware in anyway it just adds to it.

You don't have to be opensource or even noncomercial to encourge active development of your products.

It in fact makes perfect sense to do so as it creates a comunty around it and improves the software faster then it otherwise would at no cost to them. (linksys wrtl54g router for example)

Boxee though seems to have no clue about this and live in fear of thier firmware being tampered with (lord knows why its backwards thinking) and at the same time seem to wish to aliennate the comunty that made them popular.

Boxee needs to smatern up and use everything to thier advantage and that includes the people who use the product.

    Default Where is

OK, so I downloaded and installed 1.5 windows version on my PC just to have a glimpse about what will come to the BoxeeBoxes in January.

I did like the changes in the GUI! Specially that now I can select a specific season for the shows, and the watched flag is now clearly visible! I also liked the increased amount of movie covers that are now visualized in the screen, with the synopsis presented by default when you select a movie.

I had some crashes in my PC version, but since my primary interest is the 1.5 on my two BoxeeBoxes, I hope these issues will be ironed out for the BBox release.

However one thing I was expecting to find is the option to "Automatically play the next item" for *videos*.

I have various family videos in .MOV/.MP4/.MTS format (each scene in a separate file), and I simply CANNOT USE my BoxeBoxee to watch my familiy movies!

Boxee team, please, PLEASE, PLEASE add the ability to automatically play the next item also for videos!!!

    Thanks!

Except they won't. Not now. Not ever. (or that's what the company's blog post led me to believe.)

After a few days of playing around with 1.5 and having it crash on a fairly regular basis, I've moved to XBMC and am kicking myself for not having done so sooner. Boxee on my PC got me to cut my cable/satellite cable almost two years ago and now XBMC will let me keep it cut for quite a while longer.

    Adios Boxee

The JIRA issue states "Fix Version/s:Client > Heidi.1"

I guess "Heidi.1" will be the update after the upcoming 1.5 update as the list of versions page confirms "Heidi" is the 1.5 update.

Thank you! This is the only missing feature that's preventing me to promote BoxxeBox as my main media player (currently I have two Tvix N1 as my main media players).

EDIT: the bug you referred to is currently marked as "reopened" and it is unassigned. So unfortunately a such small feature is really a major drawback to me. I really wanted to be using BoxeeBox as my main media player, but due to the lack of the ability to watch my home/familiy videos on it, I will have to keep it attached to a 22" TV in a bedroom and my second BBox is connected to a TV in the family cottage (I have two Tvixies N1 conneted to the other two 40" TVs which are my main TVs).

WD doesn't in any way "encourage" people to mod their boxes, they just haven't spent time on locking it down.

Indeed, smaller things (also like menu wrap around) that could be fixed in a few hours is not something they want to consider for some arcane reason, they solely focus on what they think will be big megabucks deals for them.

It'll get assigned eventually maybe sometime after the release of 1.5 if my guess that "Heidi.1" is the first update after 1.5 is true.

The way I see it is that the version for the "fix" to implement this feature has been stated which means that its on the way regardless of the fact that its not assigned yet or the issue being reopened.

Okk you clearly had to much fun during new years.

Its the only think that could explain that statement since the techs behind the wd firmware have given the ok and encourgement for the development.

Its all in black and white and simple google search for custom wd tv live firmware brings you too it.

Seriously no major company like wd is going to let this keep going on if they don't wish it.
They could easly stop it from happening but instead they let it happen and its done nothing but improve thier own firmware.

New ideas, code improvements and atracts others to the box.

It doesn't take a genius to see why they have left them alone to do there work since it does nothing but benfit them.
