Thread: HD playback drops frames

    Default HD playback drops frames

I never really noticed this before until I started playing boxee through a projector to a 100" screen.
Playing any 720P or 1080P videos have a slight stutter or frame drop every few seconds. It is very noticeable on pans.
There is no problem with bitrate, I can play up to 50Mb/s without buffering over wired LAN and NFS share. CPU usage is around 40% and bitrate is 5Mb/s on the current 720p mkv I'm playing right now. I get the same slight stutter on every HD format I have tried, mov, mp4, mkv, it doesn't seem to matter.
I am on the latest firmware. I also have two boxee boxes and both exhibit the same playback issues.

Well, I have been a boxee user since the early betas on mac/pc and the original apple tv and now own two boxee boxes. I have finally given up and ordered one of these http://www.amazon.com/HiMedia-HD900B...4617846&sr=8-1
I'll still keep the boxee for it's friends lists and watch later functionality but for local media playback the HD900B will be my primary device. I've so done with stuttery HD playback.

I've not had any stuttery playback from my US BD ISOs. Are you using 24P or 60P output? Mine main box outputs 24P(unless it's video) and then my DVDO DUO takes to 1080P60. But even on the boxes going to my TVs at 1080P24, I'm not having stuttering issues.

Now I have always had an issue with UK BD content. Those are unwatchable from the Boxee Box and have a stuttering issue. I need to use my PCH media players for those, but I only have a handful of those titles so it's not an issue.

    You're a genius! I was outputting 1080p60. It's silky smooth now.
This is awesome. Oh well I can still use the HD900B for watching 3D BD ISOs.
