Question Boxee would be cool. if i could get it to work :(

Hello I just got a boxee yesterday. I plugged it in. Set some up gave my email. And I went to install the BMM boxee media manager and it says my username is already in use. I used in the start up of boxee that's it. So now I can't go any further w tthe installation. And I purchased this so I could watch what's on my laptop. How do I fix this problem

You don't need BMM to use the Boxee Box.

When you start up the Boxee Box, can you login? Do you get the home screen?

No, you don't need BMM, you just need to 1) make sure the folders you want Boxee to see from your laptop are shared and 2) add those shared folders to Boxee's File Sources. Boxee will scan those folders, try to identify the names of the movies and TV shows and put them in the Movies and TV screens. See more about properly naming your local files and the scanning process.

You can also try just browsing to the shared folders via Files>>Nework>>Windows Network (SMB)

Thanks. Ill give it a try when I get home and see if that works. So it just reads the laptop wirelessly. Is there anything I have to do to the folder on my laptop to make it like discoverable?

Like I said, make sure the folders you want Boxee to see from your laptop are shared. If you need more help with this, post what OS you have running and I might be able to Google a tutorial for you.

Also, you may not get great streaming performance if both your laptop and Boxee are wireless.

Well my boxee is wired. If I used a usb to usb cord to tether the laptop to the usb of the boxee would the quality of the video be comprimised? I'm runnin windows 7 I believe. I don't really want the video comprimised as they r movies that are already not 10/10.

No, you can not connect your laptop to the Boxee Box via USB to get to your movies on the laptop.

Let's get you set up to access the files first and see how playback works; in the long run, you might want to look at getting a USB drive, copying over your movies from the laptop to the external drive and then connecting the USB drive to your Boxee Box.
