We see this with various other products where you get special variants of one sort of another.

In this respect I would expect D-Link to still support the non-special version.

And as you can still buy D-link Boxee Boxes today with the traditional packaging and traditional remote.

Of note, is that D-Link themselves do not talk about this new option on their webpages (not that I can find) so I believe it is a hoax.

Anyone can post a picture and say, hey the remote has been redesigned. How about this one (okay I could photoshop out some of the txt giving it away as an early design).

P.s. The picture of the Netflix remote was on the web a year ago... :-)

It's right on the Boxee.TV website that streetwolf posted on the link above yours.

Yes. But equally look at the D-Link website (the guys that actually produce and sell the product):

    http://www.dlink.com/boxee/

Click on the picture of the remote.

See my previous email also, a year ago there was plans, and I presume some early mockup's were even produced.

Can you help me understand what you mean by this being a hoax? Do you mean I photo-shopped a netflix sticker onto the button for kicks, or that Boxee is trolling me by sending the wrong version for fun? Neither of these ideas makes any sense at all, but I am curious what is going through your head.

I ordered the "normal" version from Amazon and was sent the Netflix version, so this was either 1) an accident that leaked out early 2) a full product line replacement going forward (worst case scenario).

This is not the first report of the Netflix button in place of the pause/remote button.

Or an early production model from last year which somehow managed to find its way to you by mistake? The NetFlix remote was built over a year ago, shown on the web over a year ago, and then not released when the BBox went commercial.

Of course, you may have stumbled onto a great conspiracy and the original plans may have been resurrected. :-)

So I woke up at four AM this morning and found this thread. Then I went back to bed and had the oddest dream. I had gotten a new netflix "buttoned" remote and at first I was mad - then I looked down and saw two rows of about six buttons each row with Hulu and presumably other apps on them. Then I thought what about gamming? At that point I noticed that each player had a section of buttons on the one remote and each section had a little stick controller sticking up from the button group - including the one on the back.

No real point to this post other that to share that odd tangentially related dream. Maybe the point is "it could be worse..."

From my point of view I'm more upset about the branding on the device - I don't want a red netfix logo staring up at me every time I go to the remote. I figure the functionality is software and is going to the same regardless.

I've been a huge supporter of BoxeeBox since it came out last year (I bought mine the day it came out). Iv'e also been responsible for over 5-6 of my friends to go out and buy it (not alot in the big-picture but still..)

IMO This is a HUGE Fail/Mistake on their part. In my mind Boxee is an open platform for all kinds of offline/online media. Branding it with Netflix (which in Canada is a total waist of time) is just wrong.

I still can't believe this is real bit for now lets pretend it is...

What would a company like LoveFILM think to bringing an app out on a box that has a huge Netflix button on it?

I can't take any more from these clowns. Another great reason to walk away from Boxee, it's not the fantastic open platform they once promised us it was going to be and looks like it's going downhill rapidly with this sort of BS. I did once recommend Boxee to family and friends, in fact managed to get you guys a few sales, but no more. I've just ordered a Mini-ITX case and Atom motherboard and will be departing these forums for XBMC as soon when they arrive (I've the Boxee Box sold). C'ya all.

Many devices have dedicated Netflix buttons now(Roku and Vizio come to mind), this is nothing unusual.
