    Default Newbie Movie Question...

Recently bought the Boxee Box and I want to connect a 2TB Expansion drive to the USB port to create a movie library...what software/app do I need to use the Boxee Box to organize/display my library so that I can search, have art/descriptions etc. I have downloaded the Navi-X app, but am not that proficient in using it yet...

    Thanks

You don't need to get any app.
The Boxee Box has built in software that will organize and display your movies and TV Shows in a library format.
It will retrieve the metadata on it's own. This is all assuming that your box is connected to an internet source.

To make it easier for your box to recognize, you should think about putting all your movies in their own folders and throwing in all the extra subtitle files in the movie folder that it corresponds too. As well, the subs should be named the same.
    For example:

    HDD-Movies-Avatar-Avatar1080p.mkv
    (in the same folder)-Avatar1080p.srt
    Boxee Box
    Onkyo TX-SR606B
    Polk Audio RM20 5 Pack
    Polk Audio PSW125
    Sony KDL52XBR4
    Harmony One

For the most part, if your video files are named correctly, Boxee will do most of the work for you.

You can also manually identify items that Boxee doesn't recognize.

And if you want to be very picky about it, you can use NFO files, see the NFO Resources sticky post, near the top of this forum section.

I've found some shows and movies that the Boxee Box does not recognize, so two questions. First, what is the database the Boxee Box uses for this? Second, can it be accessed directly to find the exact name the Boxee would be looking for?

They have their own database, based on a number of sources including a licensed version of the IMDB's database.

If you have specific problem titles you can:
    1) post the titles here to solicit alternate file name suggestions
    2) use NFO files and manually identify the item
    3) submit them via the forms linked to near the bottom of this page

    Thanks for the replies...
Do they have to be mkv files or are avi files ok?

[your audio question was moved to its own thread]

    Thanks

Boxee deals with .avi and .mkv files equally (as containers).

another newbie question...do the movies, tv shows have to be on the root of the external drive or can they be in folders/subfolders in order for boxee to catalogue in a db and display properly?

    Thanks

They can be in sub-folders, doesn't matter if they're on an external drive or on a shared network drive.
