But it's good we have options.
I'll have to agree with you there. Currently, I only have about a 1.5-2mb up speed from my ISP and usually have no problem streaming content to my laptop or iPad outside my home network. It does a great job.

As far as the latest Plex client goes, like I said before, just to many bugs in it to be wife proof yet. Boxee box UI is easier to use and to restart if necessary for the Mrs. The video channels on plex sometimes just work like they should. I've always thought boxee does a much better job with apps integration then plex. Non the less, I string along both to fulfill what I hope one day is integrated into one awesome device. So I can finally tell the cable companies to go shove it.
If I'm being honest......if the NFL came out with an official app for boxee or any device, bye bye cable forever. Its my last hold out. I know you can stream NFL games over the internet, but the quality usually sucks and I only do that as a last resort.

    Default new smb+mp4 playback issue

a new symptom in this build:

    - set up to use 802.11n (2.4ghz) wireless, WPA2-Personal/AES
    - select an .mp4 file (~300mb) from an SMB share (Samba 3.4.7 on Ubuntu 10.04)
    - buffering takes a long time, 2-3 minutes. bizarre.
    - playback is normal
    - about 20secs before end of file, display freezes. attempts to 'leave' do nothing
    - hangs for 1-5 minutes before returning to menu

it does this for every file i've tried.

If you can, file it in Jira. You've already essentially written the bug report, which should be easy for the devs to duplicate.

It was a step forward for me. This is the first post 1.2 release that I can use as reliably as the pre 1.2 I was using in my main box. Now all my boxes are on the current firmware. But I've aslo only run into one BD ISO that has given me buffering issues, and it wasn't because of the bitrate since it's under 30mb/s and higher bitrate BD ISOs have not had buffering issues for me with this firmware.

The BD ISO that did cause an issue(Gran Torino) was fine when played back from an unRAID NFS shaer. When playing it back from an unRAID SMB share it had buffering issues. But SMB is also what I use for everything.

Just returned to this forum after a couple of weeks' absence and a couple of weeks away from my Boxee Box. This is a wonderful description of the Boxee firmware development process. The only thing missing is the fact that they went out and sold the anthill before they stared poking at it.

    Default *sigh

resume still no longer works since the last update broke it completely on my boxee, i can no longer tell what last tv episode i watched since it no longer marks which ones have been watched. now with this build the boxee light stays on 3-5mins after the box has been shut down

My main problem is that I have to restart the boxee for it to work; on a daily basis. It just freezes up or slows down to the point where I have to restart it.

    Why is this?

At a guess, I would say that your database is corrupted as I have neither of these problems. (see thumbnail below).

I would try the following in order of least destructive:

    1) Remove all Local Files from Boxee sources and add them back, one at a time, OR if you don't have a lot of sources go to Settings>>System>>Advanced and use the "clear media information".

    2) Reset all settings

    3) Factory reset

So far so good after latest update except it take much longer to turn off after you choose "Shutdown". Used to shutdown fairly quickly (~10 seconds). I was thinking it wasn't shutting down so was manually turning it off. Today I waited maybe five minutes, probably less, and it finally turned off. Will watch further now to see if it shuts off on its own or hangs.

    Anyone else run into similar?
