    Default UPnP does not work

    Hi

I hae a Boxee box connected to my LAN with a freeNAS server. I get the SMB shares fine but the UPnP does not seem to work.

I installed Boxee on the PC and here I can see the UPnP share on my Freenas.

Anyone has any ideas what the issue can be?

It's already in Jira and there are a couple of other threads here too.

try the latest beta, UPnP works for me with that FW. Not saying its bug free but at least it works, glad i use NFS rather then UPnP.

I am using the latest beta, and the behaviour is exactly the same as in the previous betas (and as described in the Jira report).

I just bought a boxee box and the uPnP seems to be flakey. When I initially set up the box it couldn't find any uPnP servers, but it did find my uPnP server under SMB (I have a mythTv backend running a uPnP server).

After 5 minutes or so looking at other things (searching through shows/movies on the internet) I went back to the files and uPnP and it showed up and everything was working fine. I wasn't 100% sure I had been looking in the right place first time since it was my first time using boxee. I just turned the boxee box on again and it wouldn't connect to the mythTv giving the error "could not access file directory or device" and nothing showed up looking for new devices. At this time I checked that my mythTv server was up and it was and my other clients could see it (windows media player on a win 7 laptop and my PS3).

Again 5 minutes or so later after browsing movies/shows I went back to files and the uPnP was all working again.

Not sure what is going on. By the way I'm using dynamic IP and wired connection.

why not sure use NFS, SMB or AFP? with those 3 available you should not need UPnP. I have gone as far as to truning them all off on my PC's coz i have no need for it because of SMB and NFS.

With me because I am linking to a mythTv box which I use to record TV then all the file names are meaningless (I think they are actually numeric), whereas if I go through UPnP then the correct titles and descriptions are there, plus I can browse by name, title, date recorded, genre etc.

UPnP was the best thing the box had going for it.
Sadly Upnp has not worked since Firmware 1.1.2.19250.
If you need UPnP then use the above firmware and block updates.
Thats what i have been doing.

    SMB does not replace UPnP.

Ok not sure if this is true, but my wife noticed this and I haven't had time to see if this really is the case. If we had a second UPnP client on then the boxee UPnP works.

    Our setup is:
MythBuntu backend in the basement, this is on all the time (UPnP server)
PS3 in the living room (UPnP client)
Boxee Box in the bedroom (UPnP client).

If the PS3 is off the boxee UPnP doesn't work, if the PS3 is on then the boxee UPnP works.

I'll try and test this a bit later like if the order of turning on/off the PS3/boxee matters or if this all in our heads...
