    Default appletv and netflix

to boxee developers/people in the know-
what is the priority of getting netflix working on the appletv? (in boxee; not couchsurfer.) is the challenge software optimization or hardware constraints?

put it another way, what is the likelihood of netflix working independent of apple updating the hardware on the appletv? i really want to get an appletv but i want to have netflix integration.

    thx,
    frank

there is no plan at the moment for Netflix on ATV due to hardware constraints..

    edit:
this is a bit misphrased. there is background work being done on atv performance in general, which once completed would place netflix on atv right back on track.

that is sad but understandable. hasn't it been awhile since they upgraded the appletv? hope an update is around the corner.

Duah Whaa?????? I'm flabbergasted. I'm currently awaiting the arrival of a newly purchased appleTv that was bought for this sole purpose. I had read previously that one of the admins said that netflix was number one priority for appletv. Is there any hope?

no one has said this... i know, i read most every post around here.

there has been a lot of speculation, but the fact is--and i have personally posted this many times--the ATV has a 1Ghz proc, and netflix depends on silverlight (which there isn't even a native version of it for the atv.)

these issues are beyond the control of team-boxee.

i run boxee 0.9.20 on: ubuntu 9.10, windows xp sp3 (virtual machine), windows 7 and a neuros link hacked to all hell.

what super powers does a 'super mod' have? the 'super ban'... that, and laser vision.

Default netflix does not work on the apple tv

I read the blog about "....we tried real hard. vulkanr was almost able to tame it, but he was bucked by the Apple TV’s 1Gz processor..." but is it gonna come anytime soon or its just not going to work on apple tv? so I should go and spend more money to buy a netflix box or psp3 or some other box ??

the official word is that netflix on atv is not something that team-boxee is actively pursuing.

I hope Boxee reconsiders and finds a way to support netflix on ATV. It is a key feature and not having it will significantly limit the use of ATV.

Xbox 360 supports Netflix, so do a few DVD players now and there's the $99 box from Roku that now does HD.

Not having Netflix on Boxee sucks, but it's most certainly not a 'significant limit.'

Honestly, I'm surprised that there are so many complaints about this. The features that Boxee already offers are fantastic. Boxee alone has given a whole new life to my rev1 Apple TV, and it's also eliminated any desire for us to subscribe to a cable/satellite TV package. I can actually say that Boxee has saved me several hundred dollars so far since the wife now no longer bugs me to subscribe to cable so she can watch dumb TV shows.

That's $99 that I can throw at Roku or donate to the Boxee folks. Really. ;-)
