    Default SwitchResX Settings/Help

SwitchResX is a third-party application for MacOSX that allows for configurations outside of what is normally possible in the Displays area of the System Preferences.

The idea is that while the OS is very good at figuring out what display options are available over VGA connections and what it should do when it detects LCD displays, sometimes media center configurations have displays that need to be tweaked and sometimes you want to go HDMI into a receiver. This thread will gather all info on how to work with SwitchResX and settings used for particular TVs and Receivers.

I posted this because I'm trying to figure out a resolution for an Onkyo TX-SR805 receiver, btw. I'll be futzing with it this weekend and I'll post my settings here (assuming I can get it to work).

I use a 606, and I think you may be barking up the wrong tree.....

The most important factor is what projector or TV is connected to the AV receiver.

For one projector I use I dont need SwitchResX, for another I do.

Unless someone has the exact same AV receiver AND exact same TV/PJ then your settings wont be of much use

Even if they only have one it might help. And this thread might help others.

Also I've hooked the mac up to the TV via DVI->HDMI cable. It works fine. When I hook the mac up to the Onkyo it says "no signal" on the display. The cable is the same, the resolution is the same, the inputs have all been assigned and checked. The Onkyo is not recognizing the signal but the TV is doing fine.

It turns out my experiences will not be helping anybody. I tried resolution settings for the TV and Receiver while hooked up to the receiver. I could not get the Receiver to recognize any signal at all from the mini. :\

    Eh, anybody got any advice?

I'm plugged back into the TV via HDMI and so have digital audio and video but it's kind of wasting the potential of the receiver to take multiple inputs and push them all out over one video (HDMI) output. I was really hoping to not have to constantly switch video inputs on the TV.

Ive heard of other users on the AV forums having probs with the 805/605.

I use a 606 and dont have problems - is your 805 new? Would the shop let you try a different unit?

The only other thing I could think of is the cable quality - Ive seen issues with cheaper cables (unfortunately, given the cost of high quality HDMI cables :/ )

    Good luck, keep us informed
