For single NFO creation you should try this, and then just change anything you want to after in notepad.

That is odd, as nothing should work if you really used ANSI files.

But it could just be a fluke too, that the manual search failed the first time.
I've seen it happen lots of times, testing it by entering a filename known to exist in the database and then hitting the search command repeatedly. No matter what filename I use, this always produces some responses with nothing found.

I assume that those 'misses' are simply due to the server not replying quickly enough, possibly because the request was 'lost', so that Boxee times out in waiting for the response, and then takes the absent response as a search failure. (Which it really isn't. It's just a missing reply.)

Even if he starts with a file using UTF-8, Notepad may still store it as ANSI after editing, if he doesn't pay attention to Notepad's "Encoding:" choice in the file selector used for "Save" or "Save As..."

That's soooo good to know! Thanks M1ster. Ronald, I changed the encoding on the nfo file. But, it's still not working. I haven't cleared the media info or removed/added the source, but I did manually identify the movie with the nfo file to no avail.

Try removing just that movie, so that it 'lands' in the group of unidentified files. Then try identifying it manually. This should give you the option of using NFO instead of search.

That does not work if you try to identify it without first removing it, as Boxee then just uses the cached info, ignoring the NFO. (At least that's how it has worked for me.)

I can manually identify through search or nfo from the movies page. However, I removed the movie and then identified with nfo. Still didn't work.

Attach the NFO file to a post so we can see the file itself.
