Boxee Box just doesnt work. Choppy playback, reboots, lock ups. Couldn't get through a single movie. Since tested again on my mac and then on win7 (even running on my win7 vm) and it works so well. It really just works great.
I will consider buying a nettop and a boxee remote. Using this guide http://support.boxee.tv/entries/1716...ested-hardware are any of the off the shelf nettops laptop type devices good enough to do boxee only well? Local store is having a closing down sale, acer inspire etc all very cheap (comparable to boxee box).
Appreciate any tips.
EDIT: is there another firmare version that gives you the old boxee look and feel and some stability? Is it worth trying another version before i take it back?

As far as i know(as early adopter) the ultra old Firmware is the only one which comes with the good old UI. I think itīs possible to stay on this Firmware, if you donīt use your BoxxeeBox. Even then it freeze, crash and restart randomly.
Ok the actual Firmware is a little bit better, but say goodbye to the nice UI.
If you can get a refund, do it. Or find another use of the Box at home. My BB work in the Kidsroom as Mediaplayer for mostly SD / Stereo Stufff. No Network no SMB no Filescanning, no source. Only from Attached USB device. With this config this thing is solid as a rock.
For the "Adults" Room i prefer a Zotax Zbox ID41 with XBMC on a 56" Samsung LED. Boots in 5sec from SSD and performs like a Beast. Not to mention that its cheaper with SSD & DDR3 Ram then BB without everything.
but only my 2c

Thanks. got my money back and will buy a small PC and run XBMC and/or Boxee. Shame, lot of promise in the BB but not enough delivery.
