Stupid Update

I bought a boxee box today, runs the boxee software that is the same as the version you install on your mac. I went outside and came back the stupid thing had auto updated and forced me to restart and accept the new software...<<--how dumb is that!

Then when it reboots the software is COMPLETELY different to the way it worked before and in no way better. The easy to use boxee navigation has been replaced with lots of stupid icons and breadcrumb type navigation. They took away everything that was great and replaced it with the worst alternative. It's nothing like i saw it demoed in the shop now...it may as week be a different product. Some one isnt thinking at dlink/boxee.

This update is like going from win7 to windows ME...

What version do i need to downgrade to to get the original easy to use boxee nav...(same as the mac version right now).

This thread talks about how to block updates. In your case, you want block first and then do a factory reset. Be aware that many if not most/all newer apps won't work.

What is the reason for them abandoning the great boxee gui for the crud modern one?

The factory reset version. You don't download it I don't think. (v 0.9.22 or something)

Yeah i did it but it keeps asking to update...tried blocking the urls on the router etc but it always asks to update and i cant gte past.

If you block the URL correctly and then do the factory reset, Boxee shouldn't be able to actually download the update. Have you tested that the router is actually blocking boxee.iso? If so, what happens if you select update on the Box? Does it actually update?

AFAIK, the recent release is pre-downloaded, so you don't need to click anything if it isn't blocked, it will download it. In this case, maybe it's already downloaded and the block has no effect simply because it's already there on the Boxee Box.

Just a thought.

Erm pre-downloaded?? It's not included in the box so if you block the .iso, then do a factory reset, where does the file come from?

It's been a long week so I could be missing something I suppose.

Haha, same here. The user did post the he is still being prompted, which lends itself to the iso is on there. If he tries the factory reset and the iso remains, uh oh - I agree. This update pre-downloaded on mine and everyone elses and I didn't get a prompt or anything asking me yes/no. It just downloaded it and showed the upper right boxee is downloading an update.

Its blocked, tried those urls in my browser...i kept trying and it worked. Thanks for your help.

What version has the boxee gui and the most bug fixes/app compatibility. I have no SMB issue, just use IP, i use wired/wireless and its fine.

Is XBMC going to be available for boxee. This is fustrating and misleading experience for a n off the shelf retail prodoct. If there is really no options i think i will take it back to the shop and buy a nettop and run xmbc.
