This is normally due to the sites having limited rights to spread those shows. The copyright owners often grant/sell limited distribution rights, usually based on the boundaries of states or nations.

For example, I who live in Sweden will be refused in attempting to view material on many US servers, even when the material is supposed to be available free of charge. Because regardless of charges, those sites are often licensed to distribute such shows/movies only within the USA. And the same can of course also apply to other servers elsewhere in the world, often having license only for their 'local' area (whether that's an entire continent or just one country).

    Best regards: Ronald

thanks Ronald, that makes sense... so what should I change it to when using Boxee if that happens?

Regardless of how you obtained the program or what platform you run it on, the sites normally use IP tracing of some kind to identify your region.

So just changing a setting of the program can not fix this.

There are methods to make it work, but those involve reaching the server site either through a proxy of some kind, or through a VPN connection to a machine in the correct region. The basic idea is to reach them in such a way that an IP trace indicates their region, rather than your own. I can't tip you off in greater detail though, since I don't use such methods myself.

    Best regards: Ronald

oh I see... bummer. I thought I could change it in the settings... doesn't look like I'm going to have much use for this then, other than my own downloads. too bad. glad I didn't pay $200 for the box! thanks for your quick reply!!!

can someone tell me why I can't see Two and a Half Men, when it shows the 'provider' as CTV, which is a station in Canada, where I live?
