UPnP has worked for me on my late model Samsung 55" LED/LCD. I don't use it because I don't like the Samsung interface and it is clunky to navigate the NAS menu's with it.

Wow, thanks guys!!! This fixes the packed bitstreams (mpeg4/xvid) stuttering issue.
Edit: I can report after watching a full Xvid movie in 720p I did get some random stuttering a few times. It seemed to correct itself after a 5-10 seconds though.

Sorry...should have been more specific. The Netgear firmware utility (which may or may not be lying) indicates the speed is 275mb/s one way and 271mb/s the other (between two adapters). I just mentioned the bandwidth numbers to show I most likely have enough throughput to handle 1080p (max 54mb/s). Of course, it is basically a non-factor since I can stream with one version of the firmware and I cannot with another. This means the bandwidth is sufficient.
Update:
Great news - the news RC firmware fixes my buffering issues.
Bad news: I have no idea why. I was testing and on a wild hair decided to update my server operating system to Windows 7. I did this and for some reason the buffering issue is gone. I also noticed the Boxee was actually on the latest release version and not the newest posted here. I upgraded and tested again (and unfortunately changed two things at once - the server OS and the firmware). I would never make it as a tester.
I did notice the CPU utilization is way up on the Boxee - for a couple of bluray movies I tested it's sitting at 98% when it used to sit at about 80%. The video % (when you hit "i" on the remote during playback) sits around 40%-99% which is fantastic compared to what it used to be.
Does anyone know the significance of the Audio parameter (used to be aq% but now it's just a%)? Others say the closer to 99% you get the better the quality, but I have never seen mine above 60%-70%. Just wondering...
Anyway...seems my buffering issues ave gone away. I will keep testing and update if I notice anything weird. Pretty cool...

boxee's firmware testing process:
.avi file on usb hdd->boxee->hdmi->receiver->tv
if any audio or video plays at all, release
here's a bug that's been around for months-put audio on minimum audible increment (1, not mute) using volume slider. shutdown and reboot. boot animation sound plays at full blast, play a file, volume is full blast. press UP on remote, volume "lowers" to 2.
this is a great feature because mkv and avi files are still unequal volume. so when you lower the volume to 1, then play another file, it will rip apart your speaker's foam surrounds. but then you can repair it.
edit:how long until this forum is made private so that prospective buyers can't see it?

Thanks guys for the help with verifying the fix's..i understand the frustration and working as fast as we can to fix most of the issues..
will look into the UPnP issues and the Ready NAS (this is with no username and password)..Can you check if NFS works?
Audio dropouts is worse than 1.2.020310? or 1.2.1.20426?
@n0thng2bdone will try and reproduce your scenario..
