Default Can't see Boxee Box on my network

I used to see my Boxee Box in Windows 7 in my network area and get into my files and drag and drop my media into my hard drive connected to my Boxee, but now it's not in my computer's network anymore, is there something i can do to fix this? I can use media manager and also stream files from my computer, i just can't see my Boxee, any help would be great.

Have you double-checked the SMB client settings of your Boxee Box ?
(Found inside the Network section of the settings menu.)

I've seen posts by others stating that after one of the firmware upgrades they had to re-edit these settings, with special attention to the 'Workgroup' name entry, without which the computer will be unable to 'see' the box. That name must match the workgroup name you've defined for the computer(s) in your LAN.

In hindsight I now see that my advice in the post above is partially incorrect.
It is not the "Workgroup" name in the SMB client settings that affects access of a PC to the USB drives of the Boxee.
That setting only affects the access of Boxee to shares on PCs in the LAN.

The relevant setting is the "Share Workgroup" name entry in the Server settings.
This controls which LAN workgroup Boxee will report itself as a member of for sharing its local files,
and that is what controls whether or not other units in the LAN will 'see' any Boxee shares.

Both settings will need to be correct in order for the Boxee Box to be a 'full member of the workgroup, sharing both incoming and outgoing stuff just like a PC.

    Sorry for the mixup...

Thanks for the reply, I realized i didn't have the share media with devices checked, I don't know if that was it but it suddenly popped up in my network and that's after i enter my network info again, so all is good for now, thanks again.

I don't mean to hijack someone else's thread , but I've had a similar problem that I haven't been able to solve yet. My situation is that my attached drive ' appears ' under NETWORK > Boxeebox and I can open the drive , but ONLY when Boxee first boots. 2 or 3 mins later , if I try again , Windows can't find it ( Network path not found ).
I was interested to see your comment re SHARE WORKGROUP in the Server Settings. I don't have it ? Under Server Settings I've got

    Host Name boxeebox
    Enable Web checked
    Web Port 8800
    web Server pword <blank>
    Enable File Sharing checked
    Share Password Guest
share Workgroup <name is correct >
enable Stream to iOS dev <unchecked >

I think my problem is a permission issue , possibly with the guest account but I don't know where to go from here ?
    Thoughts appreciated

One thing that seems wrong in your previous post is that you say you have set Boxee's fileshare server password to "Guest", which is not the normal practice.

Normally it is the server Username which is "Guest", and that is not even editable in Boxee's GUI. The Password entry is editable, but for normal Windows-style use of a 'Guest' account, that password should be left blank.

That is how I have it set up on my Boxee, and that works with both my two WinXP computers and with my Win2K server. And all of them can see the Boxee's USB HDD at all times (all these units are on 24/7, including the Boxee Box).

However, with a bad configuration you should never 'see' the drive contents over SMB at all, not even temporarily like you reported above.
(You might see the drive, and its top-level directory listing, but no real file/folder content.)

One possible reason for your problem is if your USB drive has an improper sleep mode implementation. This can cause the Boxee Box itself to lose 'touch' with the drive, and then access to it over SMB naturally fails as well.

At the times when you've 'lost' access to that drive over SMB, have you gone to the Boxee Box to check if the drive remains accessible as a local drive there ?

I recently got a new computer running win7 and everything shows up under network discovery except for the boxeebox? I have file sharing enabled.

If you go into WINDOWS Explorer (NOT IE) and enter the IP address of the Boxee Box like this:

    \\192.168.1.123

where the IP address above is the IP address YOUR Box, does that work?

Also make sure that your new computer is in the same workgroup as the Boxee Box (by default this is WORKGROUP but if you ever changed it...)
