Default Why does Boxee find info for some movies and not others?

I'm sorry if this has been asked before. I tried searching but its been a while and I haven't managed to find the answer.

Why is it that Boxee is able to identify some movies but not all? Is there a naming format that I'm not using. Similar to how you need to name your TV shows "TV Show name;S0xE0x"?

I've tried "Movie name;Year" but that didn't seem to help I've also tried "Movie Name Year" and just "Movie Name". These are very poplar movies so it's not like there isn't an IMDB entry for them and it doesn't seem to relate to the file type either cause I have some MKV movies that detect and some that don't.

I tried running the most recent build, it picked up a few more movies but there is still a lot missing.

    Any suggestions?

    Hi dustyny

    Welcome to boxee..

boxee starts to index your media content in the background we are always trying to make it more effecient ...Did you try to recognize movie manually?

Can you pm a few examples of the movies that are not being identified.

    cheers

    Some generic matching tips:

Using: <Movie Title>.<extension> seems to work best.

I had a few that didn't show up, so I went to IMDB and made sure the titles matched exactly. I would say, when in doubt, check the EXACT titling IMDB uses.

I have found that the best way to name a movie that is split into more then one part is:
    <Movie Title> <Part>-of-<Parts>.<extension>
    so
    Chicago 1-of-2.avi
    Chicago 2-of-2.avi

Lastly, I don't use colons in files name, just to stay cross-platform compliant with my file system. As a result, I've found using a dash to be best:
    <Movie Title> - <Subtitle>.<extension>
    so
Star Wars Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back.avi

I have some pretty esoteric movies that show up just fine (IE: "Revolution OS Linux Documentary")

But sometimes your just the mercy of IMDB... For example: "The Neverending Story" always shows up as: "Unendliche Geschichte, Die"

I ran into similar problems with tv shows (Rome in particular). Boxee recognized one episode, but none of the others, even though they were all named the same way (Rome_s1_e1.mp4, etc.).

Renaming the files to "Rome.s01.e01.mp4", etc. fixed the problem, they were all properly indentified by Boxee. If this is a required way to format tv show files, I missed it, and it would be good to make it known. If Boxee is supposed to identify things other than that strict format, Rome seems to throw it for a loop.

Having Boxee recognize the default naming of Handbrake files would nice...

    Question ID Movies

Although most movies are identified, there are a few which are NOT. If you need some examples, here are some: A Different Loyalty, From the Earth to the Moon, Riddle of the Sands.

I thought that putting an jpg-file with a 147x200 pixels cover image in the same folder as the movie, then Boxee would find this if finding nothing else OR there should be a way to choose this file. No????

What are the exact filenames for these movies? have you tried to manually identify them in Boxee using the manual identify function?
