Thread: Boxee dropping frames in Ubuntu Natty 11.04

Question Boxee dropping frames in Ubuntu Natty 11.04

I've recently installed Ubuntu 11.04 Natty on my eMachine / Revo along with Boxee. When ever playing back HD content though the playback is choppy. I've checked the OSD to find out info on video playback.

The fps fluctuates from 24fps to 18fps and both CPU1 and CPU2 are running at about 90%.

Any ideas why there's problems with video playback on Ubuntu 11.04—I've got no problems on another machine running Ubuntu 10.04 and fps stays at a constant 24fps and around 20-40% CPU usage.

Is this a specific problem to Ubuntu Natty 11.04?
    I run boxee 0.9.2 on: ubuntu 10.4 64bit.

As noted in various other posts, 11.04 is iffy. Some get it to work; some do not. On the Boxee download page, it is not listed as one of the supported Ubuntu configurations.

Thanks for the tip. Strange especially because I thought XBMC was practially the same as Boxee—but probably just my ignorance.

XBMC and Boxee are in fact pretty different these days; that and Boxee hasn't updated the software version in almost a year now.

Wow I didn't realise it was that long ago. Pretty bad as boxee is really use friendly and full of lots of good plugins.

Think I might have to switch to XBMC permantely.

Well I can say a lot of people are pissed off on Boxee .9 since it hasn't been updated in year/s. At least boxee got in JSON in the latest box firmware/s copying XBMC then promptly rewriting it to omit x #'s of functionality.

From a dev standpoint, Boxee and XBMC are vastly different and no where near what it used to be, but Boxee is making money and XBMC isn't, so, you find the winner there.
