    Lightbulb 3TB HDD Support

Please, please oh pretty please add 3TB HDD support to the Boxee Box. I have TONS of movies, and can only access on external HDD at a time through the USB ports. So if I were able to get the largest external HDD to work, it would make my life so much better.

It's pretty weird that the Boxee Box doesn't support the 3TB HDD natively, as most every distro of Linux that I have tried can mount and view the drives with no problem.

So, for the last time.......PLEASE, add 3TB HDD support to the Boxee Box (stand alone unit).

Darcilicious, that thread was started Dec 5, 2010.

So by when should we see this added? I hope I don't have to wait another year to see it implemented.

Unfortunately Boxee doesn't announce release dates for new features, bug fixes or new apps in advance. So you'll know when it's announced in the release notes for a given release. from the comments:

Our upcoming 1.2 release still has the current kernel. As I stated above, upgrading the kernel has a major ripple effect to many other components and we need to do it very carefully, and it did not make it to our 1.2 release. It is planned or the version following 1.2. Apologies for the delays but it looks pretty solid for the next release (cross fingers).

    Angry ridic

This is absolute ridiculousness. I think this is a Major flaw and it seems such a simple fix that they should roll this out ASAP. I have a 3tb just sitting here waiting to plug in to my boxee box and it doesn't work, It should, but it doesn't. Nowhere on the box does it say not compatible with Advanced Format or 4k or 2.2TB limit. Hella lame. who cares if people have to patch a lot, this is a major flaw and only becoming worse as they drag on and drives get bigger and bigger. Honestly why the hell should larger drive support be dragged down by audio dropouts and blocked netflix in non-US countries? can you even categorize large drive support and those issues in the same ball park? if you're sane, not likely.... anyways, friggen drop this patch so people can move on with their lives and not worry about buying a NAS or converting an old computer into one. Think about the energy savings? go green! support large drives!!! practically everybody else in the civilized world does......

and it seems such a simple fix
Requires a kernel update (not just a patch), which is not so simple. Please see the section on 3TB drives in the Known / Common Issues with Boxee sticky post. There are work-arounds pointed to in that section as well.

way to scare people of with "kernel update", I do it all day long on my machines. It's not like we have an army of boxee boxes controlling critical national infrastructure that would jeopardize the safety of millions of people.... or do we? Anyways, update the kernel and lets move on. BTW have you read the actual fix to convert your drive to 512 sector size and realign? what a pain in the ass. more so than just updating the kernel. Really this has dragged on for so long, I have an XBMC box that works flawlessly and reads 3tb+ drives all day long. No reason to make this into a bigger issue than it is. Ohh btw, don't reply back with some BS post about how boxee isn't XMBC, obviously, but they both run linux in the back and are very similar. Please stop avoiding the issue and udpate!

    Signed,
a pissed off and frustrated customer .

Linux CE (which is what Boxee runs) isn't your desktop Linux.

If you put the 3TB in a NAS or share it over a network it's a non-issue. The only time this is an issue is when you want to hook up a 3TB USB drive directly.

BTW have you read the actual fix to convert your drive to 512 sector size and realign?
Yes, it's the same thing I'd have to do if I wanted to put a 2.5+ TB drive in my WHS v1 machine. Oh, and that OS is never going to be updated to to accommodate 3TB drives without doing so but I'll manage to survive just fine.

You've been saying the same thing for almost 2 years now. This is not rocket science. Just fix it. It is not even original code required. Lots of people have already solved this problem.

We boxee owners don't really care if it requires a kernel update or a patch or whatever. It is a serious deficiency in your software and it needs to be fixed in the next release. I regret choosing the boxee because of this issue and the totally useless "watch later"/no video detected on this page/popup/missing plugin un-function.

That's odd since the Box hasn't been out for two years.

I'm sorry you regret your purchase. If the work-arounds are not to your liking, perhaps the best thing to do is to put it up on ebay and purchase something else.

(BTW, just to clarify, I'm not a Boxee employee, it's not "my" code. I'm a just Boxee owner who also babysits the forums).
