My share problem came with the latest update: the Box doesn't see network shares if they are added after it started.
Does it only scan once now?

Mine seems to scan when I go into the network browse function. For instance, today I was looking for a 720P60 file and didn't see my DLink NAS listed. This was becuase I had not turned the Dlink NAS on. SO I turned it on, backed out of the network browse area and went back to it and the Dlink NAS was now listed.

Probably a stupid question, but here it is. How do I set the user ID and password for my SMB workgroup on my windows 7 machine? I tried my default user id and password, but when trying to connect from the boxee box it appears that it doesn't accept it?

Edit: I've used Network Magic to share out the folders I want, but using SMB I am still unable to gain access. I can see the share, but it always asks me for a login/password and will not accept anything. I've looked for Windows Live and do NOT see it in the "Remove Programs". At this point, I'm kind of stumped as I've read Network Magic pretty much solves any permission problems you could possibly have. When I check under "networks" in windows explorer, those folders ARE there, the boxee box just wont let me in.

I have exactly the same problem. I can see the shares from my NAS units but Boxee won't accept the user name or password anymore. Everything was working fine until the last firmware auto updated.

Do I need to reset the box and go back to an earlier firmware? Does Boxee know about this issue and, if so, are they working on a fix?

My Boxee Box has been a useless brick ever since the firmware update that added iPad support.

So tempted to throw this box out of the window and go back to my Popcorn Hour...

Before you do that, can we please buy it? Will pay you $19 since you plan to just throw it out the window. Personally I don't think that is a good decision since it probably cost you well more than that.

I'm not sure how the iPad release broke your boxee box, but I'm sure you will tell me.

    Fixed my issue. Here's how:

I restored the Boxee Box to factory settings.
    Let Boxee patch up.
First thing I did was set my SMB settings and then try to connect via SMB. It worked, there was no user id/password prompt because I had set this in SMB settings *before* trying to connect.

Now because I'm a DVI hdtv, I had to install the patched Firmware so I did this manually, etc and did the top, right, bottom left thing twice to reboot it. My SMB settings persisted through the manual firmware update without issues, letting me finally share my stuff without having to use the Media Manager which was slowing down files starting up because of the additional transcoding it uses.

    Hope this helps someone.

I do have the shares programmed in SMB settings. It still prompts me for a username and password and then doesn't accept either.

I did nothing to the box other than turn it on and turn it off. Everything was fine until the firmware updated.

Best bet is restore it and try it all over again. Sucks, but that's the only thing that worked for me.
