Went to -- > System --> Network Settings --> Windows SMB --> Input - user name and password and made sure I had the correct WORKGROUP name to match what I use on my windows 7 computer.

what do you mean by input username and password, i thought everyone was in permission, which username do i put in here? my computer is called hroksvaag on my network, is that the username and what passord is it? the one i use to login to my computer?

The username and password would be the username and password you use for logging into your Windows computer.

Okay, thats what i did, found my computer on smb shares, then it says workgroup, i press it, nothing happens, weird

Guess i have to tinker more

    Edit;

Tried for 20 more mins ,did every step. Nothing happens, i find workgroup under smb not my computer name, i press workgroup, i get another workgroup folder, and it just says add this directory. *tears hair out*

Guess its going back tomorrow, dunno what i did wrong

Having the same exact issue as you on a new unit.

I even manually put in my smb path to my server (ie: smb://servername) and all my shares show up! I click a share folder and I get: "File or folder can't be accessed" or something like that. Permissions are wide open. Very frustrating.

** Update Edit: By leaving the "Homegroup" in W7, I stopped getting the error and my files loaded up in the directories. Yay!

Default music and photos not sharing

I followed the share instructions and managed to get my videos working fine. but now my music/photos are not sharing. the main folders appear under my homegroup but entering music and photos is blank? ive checked i replicated the same sharing options for the videos folder for the music/photos and no luck. any ideas?

    --edit--

Further to this, now my videos are no longer appearing on the shared areas. ive definitely got 1.2.0.20339 installed. im using a win7 machine, (home premium), 64 bit.

if i install an older firmware of boxee, should it work like it did prior to the last firmware?

    --edit2---

more on this. i managed to share my folders to "everyone" and not as part of the homegroup. reboot everything. now boxee connects & shares all folders. everything working as before.

I've lost connection to my shares.
I did nothing out of the ordinary.
The folders still share fine with my PS3, my 360, my phone, my tablet, my cat, my tea kettle, everything. But not my boxee.

I am so beyond irritated. Clearly the only way this thing works is to use it with an external hard drive because it simply can't handle any kind of sharing.

Ridiculous. I'd welcome help but I've tried to use a previous firmware and the moment my box turned on, it updated itself again.

Please help if you think you can.

Sure it can. My three boxes access shared content on my network from six separate sources daily. I have not done anything special with my network. No jumbo frames and I use SMB shares, etc. I do use all DLink Network equipment and Win7 64bit professional with the two PCs that are shared over the network.

Well then I'm clearly an idiot. Or there's that one tiny thing I'm not doing that makes all the difference.

-the hard drive is on my computer
-I use ethernet directly into my router
-the drives and folders I want are shared through Windows 7 64-bit

It worked every single day. Turned it on last night. Nothing. Everything inaccessible. Not only did nothing change in the setup, but the computer had been on since the previous share. Is there a specific list of instructions I should be following? (Apart from the fact that the thing should work on its own and I'm clearly not the only one with SMB problems if there's a whole thread dedicated to this)

I am not saying you are an idiot. Only that it's been working in my setup. There are obviously some kind of issues since some people have problems and some people don't. I have no idea what those issues are that cause people problems. I only know what my setup is and it works. It also works at my girlfriends house, but I setup her network too. She also has a DLink router but I think I setup her Windows 7 Professional with the 32bit version.

They have created issues for people with this recent firmware. Hopefully with their next release they will fix many of the inconsistencies as well as improve on some of the other Boxee Box features. It's been almost a month since they released the last public beta, so hopefully a new public beta firmware(or final release) is just around the corner.
