I have continues SMB share problems with OS X...

On a whim I tried the Boxee Media Manager and it worked perfectly! (Except that the streaming stutters over my wifi connection). But at least I could see the media on my computer via the boxee box.

    Newbie here.

My box was fine until I installed Lion but now it only seems to see the HD that is plugged in to the box. It only sees a few random files of my external HD plugged into my mac. Some days there'll be x number of files and other days y.

I'm connected via SMB is that the best option?

Apologies as I'm not overly technical. Hope my question makes sense.

Your best option is to get a Roku and download the Plex channel.

You might have better luck using AFP instead of SMB.

Also, you may need to remove your current sources in Boxee and re-add them -- sometimes that helps after an OS upgrade.

thanks man. I will delete the sources and add again to see if that sorts it. If that doesn't work I'll look into AFP and what that entails. Thanks again.

Nothing and I mean nothing has changed on my network but yet here I am again not able to access my windows 7 shares and more importantly unable to watch what I want. So while I wait for my USB key to fill up here I am.

    I'm using the beta firmware.

Boxee hang your head in shame.
I have the same damned problem, on what seems to be a monthly basis. I have TWO Boxee Boxes, because when they work, they work well, but goddamn, I am so sick of network shares disappearing. I currently have one box that SUDDENLY decided it couldn't see my shares at all. I've restored my Boxee Box to the stock firmware, tried everything to remove and re-add my shares, making sure that everything is set up exactly as it should me, METICULOUSLY, but no, my wired Boxee Box sees everything perfectly, but my wired Boxee is being a pain in the backside. I am so frustrated... I am fairly tech savvy (but less so when it comes to networking talk), but there is no way that the average person would ever be able to maintain a Boxee Box without losing their mind, if these issues plagued them as well.

Thumbs up Windows 7 solution that worked for me

I've had Boxee for a few months, streaming movies from an external drive attached to a Windows 7 64-bit machine, with no issues -- until yesterday, when I started receiving a "media inaccessible" error for my SMB share. After researching the problem, I realized the issue must be related to the Windows 7 box, because nothing else had changed on the network. When I checked into the event log, I saw a lot of these errors from before I started experiencing the problem:

    Source: srv
    Event ID: 2017
    Level: Error
The server was unable to allocate from the system nonpaged pool because the server reached the configured limit for nonpaged pool allocations.

Researching this error brought me to http://alan.lamielle.net/2009/09/03/...srv-error-2017 The registry edits outlined there have solved the problem for me. It also explains why rebooting a Windows machine can temporarily fix the error ... because it clears the nonpaged pool for a while.

Here are the registry edits in case the above link goes down:

Set the following registry key to ’1′:
    HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\LargeSystemCache

Set the following registry key to ’3′:
    HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServe r\Parameters\Size

    Reboot.

Hope this helps at least some of you having this problem.

    Bruce

Thanks, I'll give this a try. I've made the changes and will reboot when I can.
