Thread: SMB Shares Issue - How I solved my problems

    Here is my setup...

I have a USB drive on the boxee box.
I turned on the server and smb services on the bb, using the default settings.
I find the bb & drive over my network, using normal connections.

At first, I tried to lock it down with a user name and password but had way too many issues, so I went back to defaults, restarted both bb & pc.

    It now works.... Yeah!!

Now, I can add movies, nfo, thumbs, whatever from my pc to the bb.

That's all I need for now.

Now off to Walmart and best buy to get a antenna so we can cut the cable!!

I just got a boxee box, I have an external drive attached to it over a wireless network. I can see my smb shares over the network and can play them from a windows 7 laptop but get buffering issues. Realistically I want to copy the files over the network directly on to the external hard drive but there doesnt seem to be an option on the boxee to do this.

I am just after setting up the external hard drive as a shared folder and can see the drive on the windows 7 laptop but is refusing me access to the external drive. I am now at a total loss and I am wondering if anyone on hear can help me.

    Thanks in advance.

In Settings>>Network>>Servers enable Windows sharing and the Box should show up on your network from your PC.

Find the IP adress of yor boxee box
In WINDOWS explorer (the one you use to find files on your computer) enter the IP address in the address bar like this (using your Box's address):

    \\192.168.1.101

I just set up my BB again after a few months using an HTPC, and MY GOD, I forgot what a nightmare source scanning was. I completely forgot what do, and I need help. I can't remember what settings I was using before, and this is a new PC (Win7 64-bit, BTW). All I know is this: I allowed sharing on my two externals for "Everyone", but then when I tried to access my PC via SMB, I get prompted for a username/password, which I don't know. I want this prompt to go away, or find a username/password that will satisfy it. I tried creating a Homegroup, but when I do that, it says "A homegroup can only be created on a home network". So now I'm stuck. I had hoped that after all this time and a few updates this process would be easier, but it's just as mystifying to me now as it was then. I know that there's so much information in this thread, but none of the steps helped me. PLEASE HELP. Thanks.

    Default SMB Issues

Hi, I've tried getting SMB to work, but still keep running into issues.

I have a Mac, with an external drive connected, which has blu ray .mkv rips on it. The drive is formatted as NTFS, so that I can also connect it to a windows laptop to run ember media manager. I have managed to get BMM to work and can stream from that ok.

I don't see many people saying they used BMM, so should I be switching to SMB, or just leave things as they are?

    Thanks

Default Boxee Box + Win 7 SMB share

    Hi!

I've been using Boxee Box with a D-Link NAS server before, but I changed the network drive device to an own built mini pc.
I run win 7 on it, and has autentication for smb login.
But since I've started to use my boxee box with this mini pc, some of the directories sometimes invisible for the boxee box.
No filedetection run on these directories, and I neither can see them in the "Files" menu too.
Don't understand the reason, because if I move a directory like this to another directory which I added as a source, it turns to be visible. Moving it back turns the directory invisible again.
Did anyone experienced anything like that?
Thx so much for the help guys!
