At least I felt it brush my hair as all that tech stuff went over my head!

I assume that I have to install that kernel on the Linux OS that's on the thumb drive? I kinda understand Windows, I can get thru OSX if the instructions have a lot of pictures, but I am totally flippin' lost in Linux...

BTW: I was just at the BX (Base Exchange) and I saw that they had in Boxee Boxes! $169.99. Right next to the appleTV2 (black) for $99.99, the Roku for $79.99 and a Magnavox (?!?) streaming player for $59.99.

Having seen Boxee Boxes retailing for well over $200, I was VERY tempted to buy it.

Then I remembered that I needed the cash to get my wife a Valentine present.

    In all honesty, I dont know. Looking at the instructions to run the utility, you need to ssh into the atv and issue;

    sudo ./configure.

Check out the following for more info. Im tempted to run my patchstick, but I dont have the energy today (my brain itches).

    Dec update section.

    Your brain itches?

Mine has been making a sickly wheezing noise all day.

Since running on wifi is so suboptimal and would only be temporary in any case, maybe I'll just skip directly to the hardline connection. It'll work better and should better convince my wife that XBMC can do more than an adequate job replacing the cable TV and their DVR...

BTW, I didn't mean to make this into a big involved project. I just thought you might know of a settings menu or something that I missed.

AIR over at stmlabs forums posted a tutorial for activating the wifi in Crystalbuntu -

    http://stmlabs.com/forum/topic/enable-wireless-n/page/4.

I looked it over and it seems easy enough, but I haven't tried it yet. Too much stuff on the "Honey-Do" list this weekend...

Couldn't get XBMC to work wirelessly, period.

HOWEVER, once I rearranged all of the electronics in my house to get a TV, the house modem, and the aTV all together so that I could hardwire everything - XBMC worked flawlessly! Installing Navi-Xtreme gave me hundreds of thousands of movies, all seasons of almost any TV series (past or current) that I cared to look for and a fairly large number of live TV feeds - including a large number of cable TV networks. Everything I wanted!

Of course, the wife then complained that the charging dock for our internet phone was in a sub-optimal location (It's WIRELESS for gawd's sake!)...

Cool Stuff. I actually went ahead and installed the new broadcom card in my trusty old 160GB atv. I managed to get crystalbuntu working on one of my tv's, but for the life of me I was never able to get it working on the tv I wanted it to work with (edid issue). I am running it via OSX, frontrow and it works great for what I want it for. I will add that you should look outside navi-x. There are some great add-ons that allow you to watch live tv from all over the world, current tv shows, movies (of course Navi-x is always the fallback and invaluable). Im going to refrain from naming the add-ons, but PM me and I will fess up. BTW, did you say that you were able to torrent on your atv ? I have had no luck doing this. I cant get the damn torrent app (any of them) to work worth a damn.

I never got the torrent apps to work within the ATV - Boxee or XBMC. I would download torrents on my (currently broken) laptop and then SSH them over to Boxee. However, the Navi-Xtreme app (NOT "Navi-X") does have a "download" option for videos that actually works faster than when I use uTorrent on my laptop.

I've tried running XBMC Eden on aTV's OSX and I get a little block of script in the upper left-hand corner. I've tried re-installing Dharma and then re-updating to Eden, but the superimposed block of script remains there. So I just run the Crystalbuntu XBMC off the thumbdrive instead. Haven't installed the Crystal HD chip yet, but I can't imagine it running any better than it does now does now with a hardwire connection.

I'd love to send you a PM, but you aren't accepting PMs on this forum. Feel free to PM me instead...

Thats news to me Im not accepting them ! Ah well. I will PM you some great add-ons that I use. I would absolutely recommend the chip. I have a 720p mkv of Chicken Little that my daughter watches, and I can tell the difference (the slight stuttering in sections with a lot of action has disappeared). I can see the difference watching HD streams in veetle. For another $40 its a no brainer. I use Navi-x and a few add-ons for downloading, but there are times when Im looking for something and the only place is to sail the seven seas (cough cough) where the men with black patches rule........ Mt atv is priceless for me in terms of downloading.

I will let you know how it goes. Can't believe I never tried this, although I will say xbmc on my mutant tiger Os works fine for me. I would like to add browser based video though.
