Using a virtualised environment might have a profound effect of restoration in device mode. The virtualisation may be equivalent to volume mode restoration due to a lack of complete exposure to the USB interface.

Agreed. This is a common issue for me. I wrote a piece of software years ago for calculating angle moire in specific printing environs. I'm too lazy to port it. I use it with some other win based rip software on my Mac through parallels. It works, but flash drives often fail to work. I do have a win laptop but its barely used.
I will let you know how it goes. Can't believe I never tried this, although I will say xbmc on my mutant tiger Os works fine for me. I would like to add browser based video though.

Finally had time to do this. I was able to create the usb flash buntuboot. It installs onto the flash drive (it does flash a magenta screen at some point, but flashes back to black), however I suspect there is a video res (hz) misa match as the screen is scrambled (gray and black stripes at 45 degrees). If I use the remote I can hear the sounds of the interface working, but no video. I have my TV set to 720p. I am trying 1080p, 720p @50hz.

    Any suggestions ?

Update: No luck adjusting resolution. I can hear xbmc (via remote), video is scrambled.

Pink screen for a few seconds is normal, occurs during loading NVIDIA modules. You will need to edit your xorg.conf (/etc/X11/xorg.conf) to suit your TV's resolutions and refresh rates.

    This has been discussed a lot: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?t=107624 , http://stmlabs.com/forum/search.php?...org&forum-id=0

Bare in mind the August PVR build has some issues (although the forum shows you how to downgrade your build if necessary), this will be fixed when next stable PVR-PPA is tagged

Cheers Sam. I did find some relevant posts within stmlabs. Im stuck in the middle of a hurricane right now. I plan on fixing this when I get home next week. BTW, never had an issue with my c-hd atv, but then again, I inherited it with the card installed.

Sam, I never did get back to you, but I eventually was able to get the USB working. Worked great, but frankly for me, there is no advantage with the stuff I watch (icefilms, navi-x), but for those streaming local movies, I can see where it would be great. The only think I did not try was browser based streaming (using flash, silverlight). I would recommend this, but not from the flash drive, install it on the HD.

    Cheers

Fair enough -- makes sense that it doesn't really work for the average Boxee user who streams content which isn't going to be high bitrate HD

    Default hmmm

this would be interesting if it could run in any usable way! You did great stuff with the XBMC/ Crystalbuntu setup... I would love to see you take it boxee!

Perhaps even crack the boxes box... hint, hint, nudge, nudge, say no more!!

Its completely useable. You can install it onto the HD, use add-ons. I recognise this is a boxee forum, but XBMC over minibuntu is relevant and highly useable.
