Default Boxee and Upgrade Hard Drives ...

Has anyone installed Boxee on an AppleTV that has had a hard drive swapped? I'm running a 250GB drive in mine, with OS 2.2 (It won't update to 2.3, I've tried). I want to run Boxee, but don't want to have to redo the AppleTV if I can avoid it.

So, anyone done it? Did you have to do anything weird?

If it won't update to 2.3, I suspect your drive update procedure was flawed.

Nether Boxee nor the Patchstick care how large the disk is. But if your partition order does not match the original order or format, the patchstick will fail.

It should be setup in the proper order. I know I had to do it by hand. Not sure why the update failed though, not that I mind.

If the Patchstick fails, will it render the Apple TV unusable, or will it just tell me it didn't work and continue working as a normal Apple TV?

I suppose I could just redo the whole thing again and see if it works any better if I had to. I just figured the 2.3 update was doing an integrity check that failed due to the larger drive.

ssh in and do a "diskutils list", that will list the disk and it's partitions. Post that here. If you don't have ssh installed then you are going to have to patch.

If the patchstick does not like what it finds, it will not patch and give lots of errors.

I don't have SSH installed. But it sounds like giving the patch a shot will either work or not, either way the Apple TV should function. I'll give it a go tonight when I get home and report back.

Ok, I installed it tonight, and no errors were given. I ran the updatesfor XBMC, Boxee and Launcher 2.2. When I try to start XBMC or Boxee, I get an error that states:

"Error: Cannot launch Boxee from path: Applications/Boxee.app/Contents/MacOS/Boxee"

I tried reapplying the updates, but same thing. I am wondering if it is truly installing the updates, as if I go back into update, the same three options are still listed. My ATV 2.3 update does the same thing, it will download, then just not run.

    Ideas?

OK, so I ssh'd in and looked around. the /Applications folder is empty.

I tried copying the Launcher files that came in the atvusb-creator folder, but those didn't seem to help. So I downloaded the installer the updater was atempting to download and ran it on my desktop. I then copied the resulting Boxee.app to the Applications folder on the ATV. I had to manually extract the Boxee.gz file located in Boxee.app/Contents/MacOS/. This appears to be the correct location, as I now get a error that says:

"Error: XBMC/Boxee exited with status: 5"

So I suspect for some reason apps aren't being installed to the atv correctly. Is it possible this is a permissions issue? Not htat I know how to fix it if it is, I'm just tossing out ideas.

"tail -f /Library/Logs/Console/501/console.log" while the launcher download/update is running. Then pastebin it and post the URL here.
