Can't access shares after 1.2 update

In an effort to keep this thread as helpful as possible, I would like anyone having this issue to make a post with just the important information.

If you are having the same issue, reply with:

1.Error message if any (and the boxee menu screen that throws the error)
2.Share type (most likely SMB since that's what we're seeing)
3.Share OS and architecture (linux\freenas\windows etc x86\x64)

MY Issue

1.Loading Error
Could not access file, directory or device. (This happens when trying to create a new share under files-local folders)
Accessing old shares fails with no error message

2.Share type is SMB

3.The share is housed on a windows 7 x64 computer



If you have troubleshooting steps you would like others to try, please reply with the steps you took so the community can recreate them. If troubleshooting steps work for you, quote that post and let us know it worked.


UPDATE: So far 1.2 seems to have broken SMB shares as local file sources. My workaround until a fix is released is to use boxee media manager on my pc to share out the folders. This setup is not ideal for long term use as starting a video takes a good 20-25 seconds of 'thinking' on the box before any video displays.

I am working with someone from boxee support named Kosta Bryman. He suggested I do the following on my Windows box however the setting was undefined and I had no success after changing the setting to the recommended value.

Open "Administrative Tools" > "Local Security Policy"
Browse to "Security Settings > Local Policies > Security Options"
Change the value of "Network security: LAN Manager authentication level" from
"Send NTLMv2 response only" to
"Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated"

Can people try removing the sources and then removing the DB under Settings >System >Advanced and then add the source again and see if it will connect?

Regarding not logging in please try from the recovery mode (power off the box and then hold the power button down for 6-8 seconds ) and then select reset all settings.

Quick Fix: Thank you, Raboo

These steps describe how to revert to previous firmware version.

1. Download the previous Boxee Box firmware at http://dl.boxee.tv/version/dlink.dsm...9250/boxee.iso. The downloaded file will be named boxee.iso, and that name must be maintained.
2. Block the address dl.boxee.tv in your router or use a service like OpenDNS to block it. Because D-link is still forcing the 1.2 update.
3. Copy the boxee.iso file to a thumb drive. Make sure to properly eject the flash drive after copying the file.
4. Power down the Boxee Box.
5. Power up the Boxee Box by pressing and holding the power button for 6-10 seconds. Upon release, the Box will boot with the logo turned orange.
6. After the Recovery Menu appears, connect your thumb drive to the Boxee Box, wait 2 seconds, then select Upgrade from USB from the menu, and follow on-screen instructions.

Please note that this quick fix is probably not supported by D-link. However it works for me. After this downgrade i was able to access my Windows SMB shares again.

I had the same problem for a while, but it went away on my Win7 shares. SMB shares located on my NAS still doesn't work, though. Those broke with RC1.

Ugh. Any chance you've submitted this to JIRA with debug logs?

SMB shares set up local on the box as file sources. I basically set up 3 folders on my main computer and allow the boxee to index them. they are media folders for movies and tv shows. That's really all there is to it. It's not a complicated set up at all.

I see that error when I attempt to put in the password to acces the share on the box under files-local folders

In Settings>>Network>>SMB Client (I think??) have you set the username and password there?

Do you mean in Settings>>Local Files and then you're trying to add a shared folder from that screen?
