Thread: No streaming to ipad from Boxee Box

  1. #11

    Default My original question

    I'm aware that it's not possible today so my question was if anyone knows of plans to implement it in the future.

    I've got Neo550 connected to my Linux NAS but I was contemplating switching to a BB. Streaming to iPad from BB (connected to NAS) would definitely seal the deal but without that feature the BB doesn't give me anything of value (to me) that the Netgear Neo doesn't.

    /A

    P.s. I downloaded the Media manager on my laptop and copied a few TV shows to the laptop.
    The Boxee iPad app found them and played them. Once.
    Now when i open the app it just says to install the media manager and your library will appear on this page, but it never does.

    I had the same issue but noticed that I had forgot to check the box that tells BBM to start up at logon. So I had to start the exe-file that is called something along the lines of "bbmtray". Mind you, not the same as bbm.exe

    Default Errrrrr... what's the point?

    So after months of waiting, what exactly is the point?!?!

    Why can't the Boxee Box transcode the video from my NAS and transmit to my ipad, I thought that was going to be the whole point in the app?.... if I still have to run my PC (Laptop) to transcode the video, then why the ferk wouldn't I just watch it on the PC (laptop)

    ... what a complete waste of time!

    That coupled with the crappy transcode quality (yes, yes... I read your 'hardware assisted transcode post') all I can say is, why did you bother Boxee dev team? After all that fuss you made as the UK Boxee Box party!

    So to watch local videos on my ipad, my choices are:

    Boxee App
    Hardware required to be switch on and active:
    NAS
    PC
    Boxee Box
    Ipad
    Quality = pap

    Airvideo (or half a dozen others)
    Hardware required to be switch on and active:
    NAS
    PC
    Ipad
    Quality = great

    ... I therefore ask the question, WTF?!?!?!?

    Very. very disappointed!

    I agree. I don't want extra apps running on my machine. The reason I have a large nas device and my Boxee box is so that I can leave my computer off. I am disappointed that the media manager does not run on the boxee box itself.

    I tend to agree with you, personally I would love to see a NAS device run BMM in the same way some NAS devices run iTunes servers. I know it's not exactly the same app to run on a NAS, but I can't imagine it would be totally impossible in the near future. Just my two cents.

    iīm also very disappointed with the iPad-app! i donīt need any of the functionality it now provides! i only want to stream movies and tv shows from my boxee box to my iPad. THAT would be a great feature and that was what i expected. So please, please, dear bb-team, deliver this feature!

    Does anybody knows if this is technically possible? and if yes, why itīs not implemented?

    So I imagine if you had a Boxee running SMB you could share out the videos that way and have the iPad play them directly?
    Exactly which app allows you to stream to your iPad from an XBMC server? The official XBMC app does not seem to support that feature?
