Default DVD cover when selecting movies

I have an external hard drive connected to my boxee. When I go to my movies file on the external hard drive and I go down the titles of the movies there is a picture on the right hand side that is just a random screenshot of the movie file. How do I make it so its the cover of the movie dvd or maybe select a screen shot of my own?

is your box connected to the internet? if so you'll need to configure boxee to see the location of your content and scan the internet for cover art and info.

if you're not connected to the internet you can use .nfo's and folder.jpg's to create whatever metadata you desire. you can also use this method to override what boxee pulls from the web if you are online.

    Default Use Ember Media Manager

I suggest you use the Ember Media Manager outlined in this post: http://forums.boxee.tv/showthread.php?t=33055 and go through and have it create Poster.jpgs and NFOs for all your movies, for a variety of reasons:

    * Gives you control over what images you are displaying and a much better choice than what IMDB will come back with on the scan method

    * Let's you pick what you want displayed for the movie description by being able to select what is in the NFOs

    * Whether you are on the Net or off, you never have to have a missing Poster or description

    It's really easy to use...

Another vote for Ember. I stopped using "My Movies" in favor of Ember. Much better for my needs with the Boxee Box.

Can I do this after the fact, or should I do it as I go with each new rip. The reason I am asking, is I am starting from scratch, and it would be easier to use MakeMKV and not have to worry about covers for now.

You can start using EmberMediaManager (or NFO files in general) at any time, though you'll probably end up doing a "remove" Local Files from the Box and then re-adding Local Files in order to force Boxee to re-scan existing content (if you create NFO files for everything).

yes i'm connected to the internet how do i configure boxee to see my movie files and scan for covers?

I tried looking at the link for Embers but to be honest it sounds like a bit of work I don't mind whatever boxee finds as the covers just prefer if they are not random shots of feet and ground from the movie.
