    Default Ideas

    Hi,

I've just been having a look through other peoples requests and thought of a couple of ideas that probably have been mentioned before but just in case they havent.

    1. Streaming for channels from the UK, ITV, 4 OD, Sky (So us brits dont feel left out because we dont get hulu )

    2. As the atv is authorised to play drm content already when you set it up it would be nice to be able to play the content through boxee rather than switching screens.

    3. A UK version of netflix would be nice (I think its lovefilm here... they are pretty much the same)

Dunno if any of this stuff is feasable but hope its useful?

Lovefilm is theoretically possible, but as far as I know you have to pay £3 plus per movie rental download - their subscription model is only for DVDs.

Netflix subscription includes downloads, so is far more desirable as a boxee plugin

Re DRM there are ongoing debates about how boxee should support DRM media - I think everyone agrees that it is desirable, but there are several implementation challenges - main issue being that every platform has different formats and technologies for DRM media, and boxee currently uses a single cross-platform media playback library (ffmpeg), which is actually part of the upstream xbmc

I too have voiced my support for live streaming channels. Dont know what the status of that request is, or whether it is possible. I suspect it will be stream dependent.

I actually meant as in their catchup services as all the terrestrial channels and sky has on demand like iplayer which is pretty cool... saying that to stream live tv would be wicked as well.

With the DRM stuff, I was looking at it from an atv perspective but yeah I see your point.

As for Lovefilm... would be a nice start for the uk users if anything... but yeah not as good as netflix

Got well excited last night when I tried to run a video I bought from itunes... it loaded up and froze on a random frame for the episode.... must be possible to play if it can get that far?

I think we can say that once LV is promoting a download service the pricing will fall into place and be similar to Netflix. Give it time.
