Yes, Boxee already did comment: http://jira.boxee.tv/browse/BOXEE-10931

Current hardware does not support this format.
I'm not sure what there is "not to buy". The hardware decoding chip doesn't handle every encode under the sun and given the relatively recent emergence of this one, it shouldn't come as a surprise.

What is this encoding chip? The Intel Atom processor?

So a lower power Intel Atom SoC, I can't find any certain requirements for hi10p decoding though online, and that page does not mention any special "encoding chip".

The Atom-based Intel SoC uses a PowerVR SGX 535 for its GPU, same as used in many smart phones and portable devices. I'm not aware of any 10-bit decoding implementations available for any of these hardware platforms. Doesn't mean it's not possible, just not likely.

it's not like 10-bit existed when boxee was released, let alone created.

it would be nice if it supported it, but i don't expect it to, based on its specs. i'm going to have to upgrade my AMD E-350 HTPC because of 10 bit (and the desire to use HQ scalers... and just general slowness). i'm upset, but i understand the situation. now if only i could figure out how to encode 10-bit myself...
